Steel Aggressor was formed in 2010 by Rick Cope, rhythm and lead guitarist/vocalist/songwriter, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rick was formerly in the thrash metal band "Phantom Witch" around 2007 and 2008. Phantom Witch had disbanded around 2009 after Rick left and began to pursue his own musical interests in Steel Aggressor. Damon Black took over for Rick on bass guitar in Phantom Witch for a short period of time and then joined Steel Aggressor as a session bassist. Rick then decided to contact Bob Fouts, former drummer of the Gates of Slumber who had also drummed on 2 Phantom Witch songs on their self-titled LP. He was interested, then Steel Aggressor began working on their debut full length "From Ruins to Dust" which was recorded in Bob's home studio "Basement Rage".
