The genesis of Will of the Ancients occurred in the winter of 2002. Started by guitarist Tristan Biggar and vocalist Andrew Alush as a raw black metal band, bassist Stephen Walton, guitarist Yura Ukraman, keyboardist Colin Attlesey and drummer Chino Deville soon completed the first incarnation of Will of the Ancients. They soon penned a demo entitled Cold Grim Times, which soon gained notoriety in the Toronto metal underground. Though this lineup would not last, the band was reborn in a stronger, more evolved form as drummer David Gold, vocalist Jordy Steinberg and guitarist Tom Gendron joined the ranks and began writing for a full length album. David Gold eventually left to focus on his own band, Woods of Ypres, but no time was wasted finding a replacement in former Blood of Christ drummer, Jason Longo.
