Zevious is a dirty little instrumental trio from NYC that features Dysrhythmia alum Jeff Eber on drums and his brother Mike on guitar. Their recording and mastering is done by Colin Marston of Behold the Arctopus, Dysrhythmia, Gorguts...etc. They have 4 full length releases, the most recent being 2018's "Lowlands".
Official Bandcamp with just their latest album . Their other albums can be found on Cuneiform's Bandcamp page |

Listening to Lowlands now. I'm going to ask our AG Metal collaborator to add in the next couple of days. If he's not around I'll get to it.
Thanks for the suggestion. Bear with us.

So why isn't math metal a sub by now?
Also why don't we have post-metal? It's fairly common and different than sludge at this point. Russian Circles and Isis would fit in perfectly.

GAh! Should have known you would be around here somewhere!
At first I asked for Panhead Metal, then I realized all pans are metal already. So avantgard will have to do.

Also, I think Piniol is probably heavy enough to be included here.

We've been talking about adding Post-Metal (RYM has done so now). But we can only get new subs added in those times when we manage to engage M@X, which isn't that often.

As for Mike’s examples, Russian Circles would probably fit. Isis though is post sludge as far as I’m concerned. Most non sludge, black or doom metal that I’ve come across though fits pretty easy under prog metal. Irrespective of RYM, I’m still of the view that a prog metal post-metal child sub is a better way forward (alongside non-core djent possibly?). But this probably isn’t the thread for such discussions 😁

Hmmm. You might have been licking your own skin when you thought of this one PinioL is somewhat heavy but i'm not sure if they're heavy enough. We've been cleaning up and many pseudo-heavy bands like Toto got axed from these parts. There are more avant-prog bands mixing heavier elements into their mix. I guess there's no clear delineation between not-quite-heavy-enough and metal-enough but PinioL didn't strike me as metal enough the couple times i've listened to it

Voivod is the only metal album making my PA AOTY list this year. Pound for pound I consider Piniol waaaaay heavier. From the standard of metal conventions, rhythms, song structure, etc., yeah, Voivod is the more traditional metal band. While Piniol may cover a broader range of styles, the heavy parts that permeate the album are bloody heavy. Listen to the last 3 songs in particular. The 6 minute outro on that last one is practically a Type-O-Negative song.
I don't really have any vested interest either way and I'm sure the band doesn't care if they are on a metal site. But I really don't see them as a gateway to more Totos being added. Maybe this though. |

I take that back. I guess Zevious is now the 2nd metal album on my PA list.
