If it's the vocals that bother you, I can highly recommend Myrkur who mostly uses clean vocals:

i^ it depends, I have a few albums with vocals. Black metal is not my thing, at least in its pure form. Blend it with something else, I might give it a try.

New one from Nachtlieder dropped a few days ago:

Her last album was one that really grew on me the more I listened to it and this one seems excellent right off the bat. Proof for me that straight up black metal still has a place within the increasingly diverse genre.

I really like this one. Much better than his first post Immortal album...

^ that's cool. I wasn't blown away by his first album. I guess he and Immortal are in competition now!

^ Me neither, his first one was okay but this is a big improvement. Haven't played it enough yet to decide if i like it better than the last Immortal album or not.

Yeah he's upped his game a lot. I haven't bought this yet because it's bloody expensive of Amazon, but what I've streamed has been much more impressive.

It's quite close in style to Immortal's last one. Even Abbath's vocals seem more in line with those delivered by Demonaz on that album, not so much his unique rasp. Seems like it might be quite the reactionary record to my ears.

I did enjoy it though. It's very well made and has the added benefit that he isn't doing what Demonaz is and continuing to scrape the old Blashyrkh barrel.

Never understood the fuss about this band but with this one I finally get it.

I've listened to a fair share of satanic black metal.  Anybody know any good Christian black metal other than Antestor and Frosthardr?

P.S.: Please don't mention Extol.  Death metal, not black metal.
And the Trogdor comes in the NIIIIGHT!

Going through a lot of black metal lately including:

  • Acathexis - Atmo black with the Mare Cognitum guy on drums. They have a new one dropping soon as well!
  • Aquilus - Figure a few people on MMA know this one. Bellum II said to be on the way this year!
  • Asagraum - this band doesn't break the mould, but it's solid no frills BM.
  • Borknagar - actually doing a reverse discography run on them so am only just getting to their blackest records. Have worked their way up to one of my top bands by this point really.
  • Entropia - very good post-black/sludge stuff. I've had their second one as my MMA avatar for a long time now.
  • Fen - recently completely a full discography listen.
  • Gaerea - heard them before but more or less a recent find.
  • Sear Bliss - I'd only heard Glory and Perdition before recently.
  • Wodensthrone - if I had a list of bands I'd love to see recording again they'd be high up on it.

These are the two BM albums of 2024 that have impressed me the most so far:
