In honor of the general polls working, here's a general poll!
By the way, soda is the only correct answer.

Soda, unless I'm talking about Coke. I obviously don't call Mountain Dew "Coke", but I do call Coca Cola "Coke".

Soda
And let's keep it that way.
Interesting...I did notice in Pittsburgh the soda/pop line changed. Didn't know it was so dramatic...
The south is silly. They just call all soda "coke" ??? What if they want a sprite?

I'm a proper Northerner who calls it pop. And I've not had one since early January. And I don't miss it.

I'm a pop guy as well. The only pop/soda/Coke I've been drinking lately is Coke Zero. It's better tasting than I remember diet pop being.

I had been drinking diet pop for years...Diet Pepsi, Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Sprite, Diet Root Beer, Diet Orange, etc.... I had gotten so used to the taste of diet pop, I couldn't drink "leaded" pop because it was too sweet for me. After reading studies that diet pop doesn't really help with the diet because apparently it just makes you hungrier, I stopped drinking it and have only been drinking water for the last 3 months. It might just be a phase, but I honestly don't miss drinking pop.

Interesting... I didn't know "pop" was as widespread as it is. I also like the small soda patch on he Missouri/Indiana border.

yeah I found that odd. Wonder why it is. And yes, it's called soda because it is soda! I'm a proper northeasterner.

Soft drink is a very general term that usually incorporates drinks such as lemonade, iced tea, and such.

Weird how I rarely hear milk referred to as a soft drink. I guess that's big boy stuff.

That's really dependent on where you live. Even in America there are a ton of different names for it. I know it as soda, and find it silly to call it anything else, but I know people from Chicago and that area who call it pop.

We just call it 'fizzy juice' here. Although I tend to refer to it as a 'mixer' as it's the only thing I use it for!

It's true. Mainly when you go to restaurants, though. Whenever someone says they want a coke, normally that means any sort of dark carbonated liquid.

Only in taste, not in name . It's really not quite that drastic though. Only about 40% percent of people don't distinguish what they want when they ask for a "coke".
