very honorable mentions
Pearl Jam Sepultura Joe Satriani Motorhead Iron Maiden Blind Guardian Yngwie Malmsteen King's X Metallica Black Sabbath Megadeth Suicidal Tendencies Exodus Pantera Helloween and many others... this was harder than I thought I'll remind you that the extreme side of music is missing because I listen little of that. You can mention many more |

I'm going with Paradise Lost though it was between them and Coroner.

As you say a lot of extreme metal is missing (and 1991 was THE death metal year), so from this list it was between Fates Warning, Dream Theater, Overkill, Paradise Lost, and Psychotic Waltz for me. I voted for "Into the Everflow", as it´s probably a personal top 10 album for me.

Lots of the albums I love from these years were missing from this poll, but out of these I went with Rage Against the Machine. Overkill a close second.

Some of all time favorites here. And some missing too! So difficult and I don't have the courage to list what I think is missing. So many... besides the stellar death metal albums, Death above all! SKYCLAD's best album! Aspid! Demolition Hammer! Heathen! Nevermind :P
I already have too much difficulty choosing between Streets, Into the Everflow and Into the Depths of Sorrow. I'll give it to Solitude Aeturnus because nobody else would ever vote for them and Robert Lowe is one my favorite vocalists. And to think Beyond the Crimson Horizon (1992) is my fave by them (by a hair though). Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Running Wild and Rage all DESTROY Helloween those years btw. |

I'm kinda forced to vote for Dream Theater since it's the only album on the poll I've actually heard, but for me the best album in this time frame is Blind Guardian - Somewhere Far beyond.
Others: Heavens Gate - Livin' in Hysteria Iced Earth - Night of the Stormrider Running Wild - Blazon Stone Running Wild - The First Years of Piracy Running Wild - Pile of Skulls Alice in Chains - Dirt |

I'd vote for Blind Guardian's Somewhere Far Beyond too if it were listed here.
There's a couple of extreme metal ones I really like from 1992 as well though: Darkthrone - A Blaze in the Northern Sky Nocturnus - Thresholds |
