I recently in the past few months purchased 2 brand new vinyls and they have some background noise in some areas. One is chilliwack breakdown in paradise sealed since 1980. It is mostly in track one but faintly in other spots. Also side 2 is perfect sounding. The other was a white vinyl reissue of pink floyds album meddel. I dont remember how bad it is on that one being i only played it once. Why would 2 brand new records have surface noise and is there any way to eliminate it?

Sometimes it can be down to a poor pressing. It could also be static so might be worth cleaning it with a quality record cleaning solution. I've sometimes found that the surface noise goes after a few plays but if it's that bad might be worth sending it back.

Sealed since 1980 doesn't mean new, the material could have easily degraded depending on how it was stored
