This is the thread for discussion of bands that you love, but they eventually start to make your brain throb and then later you go insane.

The obvious ones, for me, are Sunn o))), Boris and Wold

Cephalic Carnage is one of those bands for me. Albums like Lucid Interval are amazing IMO, but can only be taken in small doses. That's way too crazy of an album for a casual listen. Wacko

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned Meshuggah yet. That's a typical case of brain damaging band, I love'em but too much exposure to them makes me numb and autisticWink

Another band that comes to my mind right now is Kayo Dot, these guys are masters at testing human's resilience to sonic chaos (e.g. Manifold Curiosity).

I would say Meshuggah, but I only ever play them when I know I'm not going to develop a headache from listening for too long. The only band I can say at the moment would be Boris, or Drudkh (all that buzzing gets damn annoying after a while, as epic as the music is).

Yeah Meshuggah can be quite an exhausting listen but once you settle into the hypnotic groove its pure bliss IMO. One of my favorite acts.

I have tried listening to Meshuggah during a migraine and it sort of helped while listening, but it was worse afterward. LOL

Quoting again for emphasis.

For me, certain Bull of Heaven pieces.  Especially the 13 hour long one which would have been the longest one I've ever listened to, but I was listening to it during the bus ride to and from Florida (mp3 player's battery life prevented listening to the whole thing in one trip).  I stopped on the way back about 6 or so hours into the song.  Still the longest amount of time I've spent listening to a single Bull of Heaven piece. Cool

Liam, I just listened to Bull of heaven. The word "unmerciful" can't describe this band. It's one of the sickest things I've ever listened to. I don't have problem, I like it. But ok, these people are unbelievable.
Inexistence is the true normality.

Iron Maiden does this for me after a while.  I think it's the vocals mainly.

Merzbow gets to me after about....5 seconds LOL

I'll agree with Ben, Drudkh is amazing but damn those buzzing guitars
Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

I'm going to go with Meshuggah too. It makes my brain itch. I guess that's the point of all the insane rhythmic stuff they do.
Oh, and Khanate too, that's a harrowing listen.
