VS
This seems like a fairly good battle. Two well known prog-metal artists, but still at the same time very different styles. Let it begin: My vote goes to Hevy Devy.

I'll choose Devy since his projects have a bit more variety. Obviously both have recorded great albums.

Hevy Devy gets my vote. His voice is clearly superior to Mikael. I love his humorous tones that he uses. His guitar work is really awesome too; he's one of my favorites. Plus, he mixes and produces.

Even if I like Devin's work, he's no match against mighty Mikael

Devin. Both talented musicians but I have to show my nationalism.

I'd have to say HevyDevy on all levels, musicianship, songwriting, etc. Plus, I find him far more consistently good.

Lost respect for these archives when I saw Creed added, among other bands. Not going to be foruming here anymore. You can keep my reviews if you want.

...I'll do it anyway. Compositions Mikael Conceptual Devin Musicianship Devin Production Devin Vocals (Clean) Devin Vocals (Growled) Mikael Devin 'tis. |

Ive chosen the "Its Impossible to decide option". I dont think they are comparable. Their music styles are so far from each other that it makes no sense. Im pretty sure though that they are both fans of the others music.
When I saw SYL on the tour the "The New Black" they played "The Drapery Falls" at full volume just before entering the stage. What a majestic way to build up to a show.

Well yeah, I know that they are very different, wasn't really my goal to compare two similar musicians. I just knew that these were two fairly big names and wanted to see which one this community liked more. And yes, I'm fairly positive they enjoy each other's music. In fact, they're both on the song "Stand" off Deconstruction, awesome song too. But yeah, for me Devy is the obviously choice just because I think Terria, Ziltoid, and Deconstruction are better than anything Opeth put out. But hey, Opeth is still on my favorite band list, it's just Devy tops it. Seeing both live in October so I'm happy.

Devin is amazing but Mikael's songwriting and growling beats all.

This is a really good poll. I wouldn't have thought of it, but then again, I'm not very creative, so...
If this is whose work we like more, then I'd say Devin. I respect Opeth and what Mikael has done, but I never felt the connection for any of their work that I do with Ocean Machine and, to a lesser extent, Terria. But as musicians, they're both amazing, so I won't compare them any further. |
