Blind Guardian, though I prefer Running Wild - Death or Glory from '89.

...aaaand my OCD won't let me rest if I don't post these treasures:
Zed Yago - Pilgrimage. One of the best heavy metal albums ever. THE best female vocalist. One of my favorite songs ever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocdvIen_3zY Leather - Shock Waves. Second favorite female vocalist. HEAVY METAL. I think she must be the first REAL heavy metal female with a solo album. The rhythm section (bass/drums) eventually ended up in King Diamond's band (House of God era if I'm not mistaken) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46uHQGBNmIA Titan Force - Titan Force Holy shit ladies and gentlemen. The Tyrant from Jag Panzer in one of his best performances. Masterpiece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mBrYoj_h2o4 US Power metal masterpiece II: Oliver Magnum - Oliver Magnum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz2R4uZXAUs US Power metal masterpiece III: Heir Apparent - One Small Voice https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm1cNE2hsG8 Running Wild - Death or Glory According to most of their fans, their best. Masterpiece. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdxLVYhi48o Heavens Gate - In Control (always a quality band, very underrated German band...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ila9cKW9lAA Powermad - Absolute Power. This is a song that WILL get stuck in your head, an underground gem. Guaranteed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5Lkn47MhcA Toxik - Think This. Josh "more is more" Christian, one of the best guitarists in metal. Can't wait for the new album. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WjkLQBAtK8 Calhoun Conquer - Lost in Oneself (very original tech thrash from Switzerland) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQih771h2Mw Speaking of tech-thrash. Or prog. Or whatever. 1989 saw the release of this historical monster of an album that influenced so many bands: Watchtower - Control and Resistance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EDtJBzakK0 The only band that could rival Watchtower in terms of technique was this BEAST. Sooooo ahead of their time. A masterpiece of prog death Atheist - Piece of Time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8doW-lxxXQ Paradox - Heresy. Their best. Very Metallica-Puppets era in a very good way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJxilfVhLeE Whiplash - Insult to Injury GREAT, GREAT album. Very overlooked because it took a cleaner direction than their previous rawer works, with high pitched vocals etc. I LOVE IT. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-z5ggp7xpg Dark Angel - Leave Scars. Second favorite DA album. It usually stands in the shadow of Darkness Descends and Time Does Not Heal but I find it much better than the latter. Perhaps the production puts some people off but in my opinion it really suits the material. VERY heavy. Very dark. And what an instrumental this is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0g0p6tp9WY Sabbat - Dreamweaver. Best thrash album from the UK. LOTS of headbanging. Martin Walkyier before his Skyclad days is just as awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xduC3sUcR7A One of my favorite thrash metal albums. Nuclear Assault - Handle with Care. Unfortunately, no studio versions on youtube (hate that...) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCtVjX4y3ck Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness. Just plain awesome death metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mc45xIbolFw Obituary - Slowly we Rot. Scared the shit out of me when I was 12. THE MOST ROTTEN MUSIC EVER. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S19iiygsrto Bolt Thrower - Realm of Chaos. SICK. HEAVY. ONE OF A KIND. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QL19beIJSE0 Repulsion and Terrorizer complete the death metal part of the year. Of course 1989 was a good year for crossover thrash as well: DRI, Excel, MOD and Wehrmacht had great albums that year. But the prize goes to Suicidal Tendencies for the awesome Controlled by Hatred/Feel Like Shit album. Or compilation. Or whatever. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kK6bQltReIc

Faith No More - The Real Thing was a pretty groundbreaking album at the time that they never matched.

I'm torn between Alice in Hell, Beneath the Remains and Nosferatu. Godly, all 3 of them.
For today it will be Helstar.

Lots of great albums on the list, but I had to go with Sepultura, as Beneath the Remains is an album that has meant a lot to me and my listening habits.

This one was a bit easier, went with Helstar.
I could have picked Sabbath, WASP, and Sepultura though.

very honorable mentions to
Aerosmith Skid Row Sodom Kingdom Come Overkill Alice Cooper Queen Motley Crue MrBig Extreme Doro Accept Glory so this is the last 80s poll but before I go into the 90s, I shall sum up and create a poll on the most beloved 80s albums, those that got most votes and see which is the most beloved 80s album. Now that will be a tough choice poll (or maybe not, who knows? ) Edited by LittleBig - 24 May 2015 at 3:46am |
