Went w/ death metal as I think most bands I enjoy belong to that.

Hmm I could happily vote for tech or prog here since I like it best when it's both.

I wouldn't call almost all tech death I've heard avant-garde. By avant-garde death metal I mean something like Azure Emote. |

I like AOR death metal. That is death metal versions of Barry Manilow, Helen Reddy and Barbara Streisand. LOL! Just kidding, of course
Great job, HMCat. You certainly covered all ground. I like ALL death metal but i'm partial to tech DM myself so i'm voting for that. Not sure what the difference between avant-garde DM and tech would be though :)

This is a difficult one. I like prog-tech stuff like Obscura, Atheist, and Death as well as weird stuff like Pestilence's "Spheres", but at the same time I love simple stuff like Obituary, Bolt Thrower, and Cianide. There's plenty of stuff which is complex without being verly texhnical or prog, like Carcass' "Necroticism" or Morta Skuld. I like melodeath too, but primarily old school stuff like At The Gates and Carcass' "Heartwork". I like "Swansong" and Entombed's "Wolverine Blues" and some other death n roll stuff, but I can't stand a band like Debauchery. For some reason, I am not a big fan of bands like Morbid Angel or Cannibal Corpse. I acknowledge that they're very influential bands and very good muscians, but, for some reason, they never really appealed to me.

Tech and prog for me, because they blend a lot. Voted tech though.

I would say simple death metal. A la Benediction, Incantation, Bolt Thrower, etc.

Different way of saying the same thing I guess. Melodic metalcore is the more common term. Melodic death core just emphasises the death influence perhaps.

I didn't know that melodic metalcore was considered to have anything major to do with death metal. What you're describing sounds more like melodic deathcore to me. |

I just call all death metal simply death metal.
I guess most of my favorite death metal bands would be old-school, but I like quite a bit of death-thrash, tech death, and brutal death. The only one I don't like is deathcore (Although admittedly I haven't heard much deathcore.) and I don't know what slam death metal is.

What about melodic metalcore then (melodeath and metalcore?)
Went for AG.

What area of the diverse death metal genre do you like the most?
I included the ones that are included in other sub-genres on MMA in the poll (Which explains why Extreme Power Metal is an option on a death metal poll!). And yes I did go a little overboard with the options, but I tried to cover every possible basis. So hopefully I didn't miss any. Mine is technical death. |
