Some pretty sweet ass "Progressive Doom" I discovered not too long ago....Behold The Monolith. Certainly some Mastodon vibes but not that progressive. They rip dicks.

I spun this one for the first time in a while this week and what I wouldn't give for a follow-up to emerge:

New Avatarium album sounding very promising based on what I've heard so far. Sounding more like their first (and best IMO) album than anything recent from them...

It's actually out today. And it's very good. Not my favourite based on a first listen (though who knows after a few more?) but seems a step back up from the last one, which didn't have the staying power of the first two for me.

Avatarium are to release a new album soon, they've already released two videos. Magic Circle's new album Departed Souls is great, recommended.

^ You might want to check this one out Adam. I've not been this excited about a doom band since Avatarium's debut.

I have to say I think doom metal was the genre that really opened up to me in 2017. I've never really disliked it but I bought and checked out more doom metal records last year that I ever have before:
Purchased: Anathema - The Crestfallen EP + Pentecost III* Anathema - Serenades* Anathema - The Silent Enigma* Anathema - Eternity* Bell Witch - Mirror Reaper Candlemass - The Best of Candlemass: As It Is, As It Was* Chelsea Wolfe - Hiss Spun Devil Electric - Devil Electric Ea - Ea Evoken - Atra Mors Eye of Solitude - Sui Caedere Eye of Solitude - Canto III Eye of Solitude - Cenotaph Katatonia - Dance of December Souls Katatonia - Brave Murder Day My Dying Bride - The Light at the End of the World Novembers Doom - Amid Its Hallowed Mirth* Paradise Lost - Lost Paradise Paradise Lost - Gothic Paradise Lost - Shades of God Paradise Lost - The Plague Within Paradise Lost - Medusa Spancer - Greater Than the Sun Spectral Voice - Eroded Corridors of Unbeing Tiamat - Clouds The Doomsday Kingdom - The Doomsday Kingdom Tristitia - Garden of Darkness* Völur - Ancestors Vuolla - Blood. Stone. Sun. Down. * As part of my messive job lot purchase on ebay. Checked Out/On Purchase List: Ahab - The Call of the Wretched Sea (I'd heard this years ago and didn't like it then - loved it this time around) Arduini/Balich - Dawn of Ages Bathsheba - Servus Below - Upon a Pale Horse Brume - Rooster Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus Candlemass - Nightfall Candlemass - Ancient Dreams Dead Witches - Ouija Doom's Day - The Whore Elder - Elder Esoteric - The Maniacal Vale Evoken - Embrace the Emptiness Fell Ruin - To the Concrete Drifts King Woman - Created in the Image of Suffering Monolord - Rust Saturndust - RLC Skumring - De glemte tider Solitude Aeturnus - Downfall Sorcerer - The Crowning of the Fire King The Ruins of Beverast - Exuvia Tongues - Thelésis Ignis Trouble - Psalm 9 Vin de Mia Trix - Palimpsests Wastes - Into the Void of Human Vacuity Witch Mountain - South of Salem Witch Mountain - Cauldron of the Wild Witch Mountain - Mobile of Angels I can only see this continuing through 2018, as well starting to explore stoner.

I need to check this out again. I only listened the once but notice it's on a few people's top 30 lists. So many albums and not enough time!

This one is fucking immense:
http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/spectral-voice/eroded-corridors-of-unbeing I'd describe is as slightly blackened death-doom.

Another doom band I discovered recently was one that had a lone album in my job lot ebay find, which I consider one of the gems to come out of it: Novembers Doom.
The album I have is their first one and I haven't had a chance to explore their work beyond it yet, but I was very impressed by this one. It's actually one of their lower rated releases on RYM though so I'm looking forward to checking out some of the others like The Pale Haunt Departure and The Novella Reservoir.

Here's a band that doesn't have many ratings here that I've been enjoying lately: Eye of Solitude. I posted about them in this thread a while back but I've been listened to them even more now.
I've managed to pick up two of their albums reasonably cheap off of ebay and I did them both. I haven't managed to get their latest yet though. Despite only coming out in 2016, it seems hard to find already, likely because they had to self-released it and there were only 300 copies. They play death-doom but the latest album is supposed to have moved them closer to funeral doom. I have Sui Caedere (2012) and Canto III (2013), which includes two EP's on a bonus disc. Love the artwork on this one too: |

Just starting checking out The Plague Within. Seems the growling is more prominent here than the RYM tags would suggest, though the music seems more gothic than doom metal based so far to me.
