Hmm now this is an interesting poll! And a pretty difficult one. More than quantity, also quality and personal impact for me.
Lots of great albums mentioned! A few others I have thought of with some important meaning to me. Off the top of my head right now. 2000: Dead Heart in a Dead World, Aghora 2001: Toxicity 2002: Oceanic, The Mantle, Deliverance 2004: Panopticon, 2005: This Godless Endeavor, Mezmerize & Hypnotize 2006: Formless 2008: Eternal Kingdom 2010: Jupiter, Marrow of the Spirit, Heliocentric & Anthropocentric, Beacons In addition to all the others mentioned Damn, I need to really think this one over. But 2001, 2002 and 2010 are looking superb to me. |

Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

Yep. Even if 2001 had only consisted otherwise of Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake releases, I'd still feel justified in voting for 2001. TPE > everything else ever. [/fanboyism] |

Honestly, I tried justifying 2007 just for the sake of Colors, but there were only a few other good ones. That being said, Paradise Lost, Ziltoid, and Havitetty by Moonsorrow are all awesome albums.

After looking over everything I own from all the years I have to give it to 2009. Lots of 5* albums for me from 2009 (as opposed to just two from 2010!). |

This is too tough.
2009: Monoliths & Dimensions, Sunn O))) The Moving Crosscurrent of Time, The Morningside, Crack The Skye, Mastodon, Wavering Radiant, Isis, The Butcher's Ballroom, DSO, Ki, Devin Townsend Project, Animals As Leaders s/t. That's a solid year just there. 2005: Second Life Syndrome, Riverside, Deadwing, Porcupine Tree, The Fire in Our Throats... Pelican, Ghost Reveries, Opeth, Autumn Aurora, Drudkh. Another decent year. 2001; Terria, Devin Townsend, Lateralus, Tool, Bath and LYBM, maudlin of the Well, Blackwater Park, Opeth. Just those, wow. I can't choose, but one of those years, probably 2001 or 2009. Edited by Any Colour You Like - 14 Apr 2011 at 4:13pm |

No vote from me just yet, going to think a bit more. I'm really leaning towards 2009 though right now.

I only have one album from 2000! (Wishmaster) This needs to change.
I have to give it to 2009. Along with a few of the albums that Pekka mentioned, it also has Animals as Leaders' self titled album, Addicted, and Black Future. 2001 has a lot of good ones too, but they definitely don't match the quality of 2009. 2005 is in close competition with Annihilation of the Wicked, Alien, Those Once Loyal, Alaska, and Ghost Reveries. |

A tough one between 2005 and 2009, I went for the latter for Crack the Skye, The Great Misdirect, Wavering Radiant, Prior to the Fire (Priestess) and some others.

My vote goes for 2001, because of Tool's Lateralus, Maudlin Of The Well's Bath and Leaving your Body Map, Pain Of Salvation's The Perfect Element, Devin Townsend's Terria.... This list can go on forever.
