Pretty much.

That said, Patrick's list is pretty spot on to me. I also agree with Adam that Fear Of The Dark is weak, although the title track, Afraid To Shoot Strangers, Wasted Love and Be Quick Or Be Dead are fine tracks.

It's some of the more popular tracks I'm leess enamoured with. Alexander The Great sounds like a wikipedia summary / list to me. Bring Your Daughter... To The Slaughter is a little bit rapey.

^ Wasting Love is actually in their top 30 most played songs on Last.fm. A fact which surprised me. It was a single, but it's not really a single I think about too much.

Overall I find Fear of the Dark to be one of their weaker albums. It has the title track which is iconic and also gave us Afraid to Shoot Strangers which I consider the album's true jewel, but beyond that I just don't find the album all that essential.

And I'd actually say Man on the Edge is the best known song of the Blaze era, but overall maybe both those albums count as deep cuts.

These might not be deep cuts, but they're what I'd consider songs I like outside the norm.

Sanctuary (Iron Maiden)
Murders In The Rue Morgue (Killers)
The Prisoner (Number of the Beast)
Still Life (Piece of Mind)
The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (Somewhere in Time)
The Prophecy (Seventh Son of a Seventh Son)
Fates Warning (No Prayer for the Dying)
Wasting Love (Fear of the Dark)
Man On The Edge (The X Factor)
Don't Look To The Eyes Of A Stranger (Virtual XI)
Out Of The Silent Planet (Brave New World)
Montségur (Dance of Death)
For The Greater Good Of God (A Matter of Life and Death)
Coming Home (The Final Frontier)
Death Or Glory (The Book of Souls)
Darkest Hour (Senjutsu)

Turns out that Flash of the Blade is in their top 50 most played tracks of all time over on Last.fm, so may have to disqualify that one from my list as a deep cut.

Sea Of Madness (Somewhere In Time)
Losfer Words (Powerslave) - a great instrumental.
Murders In The Rue Morgue (Killers)

Might be pushing it a bit with that last one.

Still Life and To Tame a Land from Piece of Mind. Both are brilliant tracks.

So here's a question for you all. We obviously pretty much all know the famous Iron Maiden songs - the singles, the epics, the live staples, but what songs from their albums that could be described as deep cuts do you find underappreciated?

I was thinking about this yesterday as I listened to some Iron Maiden, and I came up with this shortlist:

Drifter (Killers)
Quest for Fire (Piece of Mind)
Flash of the Blade (Powerslave)
Lightning Strikes Twice (Virtual XI)
The Nomad (Brave New World)
New Frontier (Dance of Death)
Starblind (The Final Frontier)

I'm not sure if Flash of the Blade really counts as a deep cut but I know that I didn't appreciate that song as a favourite for the longest time.
