A couple of years ago I had some correspondence with one of the Guys from the band. I think it was the bassist and we ended up adding them to Prog Archives (http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=5342) and I wrote a review for their second album. A pretty good album as far as I remember (and from what I can read from my review). I haven´t listened to the album since though. Might be time to dust it of and give it a listen Again.

Yes, that's them. They're not traditional nu metal, but they do have a strong nu metal element to their sound in many songs.

There's a band from Arizona called Sicmonic that mixes nu metal with progressive metal. I think they're quite good, actually, and deserve more recognition.

I can't deny the grey areas of "Alternative" but I would suggest giving another listen to "Believe". The song structures may have been somewhat standard, but the grooves are complex and play around with some interesting time signatures. If they had gone further in that direction, I think people would have started calling them "Progressive".

Isn´t the line a bit blurry there? Alternative metal to me is more of an umbrella genre that includes among other Things NU metal. On topic I can´t say I ever heard anything that I considered progressive about Disturbed. As far as I know most of their songs are pretty much regular vers/chorus structured and not very adventurous when it comes to incorporating other types of sections. I might be wrong though, I´m not exactly an Expert on the topic

Disturbed has a lot of progressive stuff, particularly on the album "Believe". They graduated from Nu Metal a bit early though and became more of an Alternative Metal band.

Their 2009 self titled album was slightly prog-ish with some L.D. 50 esque interludes and time sigs, definitely more progressive than "The New Game" and "Lost and Found" which are what i would label as pop metal.

Mudvayne for sure; nothing fits the bill better than their first two albums.
Go back and listen to LD.50 and TEOATTC nowadays, look at the song and album structures, the concepts, their presentation live and all that. They're closer to the spirit of prog than the spirit of nu metal. |

Mudvayne and Deftones perhaps, but i always saw them more as alternative metal bands in the vein of Tool, as opposed to nu metal

norwegain act Ddsverk is probably the most progressive "nu-metal" sounding band in existence, they make Deftones seem bland and Korn seem like well normal

I definitely think that some of their tracks have an avant-garde touch to them.

^They are very ecletic. Why don't move them to avant-garde?
