i think progressive because of it can have long songs and also a whole album can be 1 entire long song split into parts like between the buried and me colors.

Prog or Power - difficult choice. Progressive Power Metal! So how do I vote?

There's an 'Other' option. People seem to not notice it in these polls around here.

Of those listed I went for Progressive Metal. I kinda wanted to vote for 'Epic' Metal as a genre

If there wasn't an "other" option, I'd choose black metal for bands like Deathspell Omega, but since there is that oh so varying "other" option, I'll choose that.
The generic "epic:, like with what you get with power metal, I just think is cheesy, and most of the time the same is true with progressive. Think the vote goes to post-metal. |

Whenever you said 'the obvious' I went 'What, power metal ?' but then when you said symphonic metal it was a big 'Ooooooooh. Yup.' |

I want to say 'the obvious', the 'the obvious' is not on that list, so Other.
The Obvious being symphonic metal.

Epic, even though it isn't so obviously so, is kind of subjective. It's weird, it feels like it shouldn't be, but if you think about it, it is. What makes you feel something is epic? Soaring vocals like Iced Earth or Maiden? Lengthy songs? DEEP textures and big atmospheres like Amon Amarth? Crazy guitar solos? Awesome arrangements like Opeth? Or just brutal power like so many more extreme bands? Sometimes lyrics are rather lofty like Killswitch (I realize that their lyrics are quite formulaic, but the imagery or notions in their lyrics are always on a big scale)
Just food for thought. |

I'd say black metal for Nokturnal Mortum and Windir, but they've got folk metal vibes in them. So, I'll go with folk metal.
7:31 mark of this.
