Topic: Helloween Albums! Posted: 15 Jul 2016 at 11:01am |
Khaliq, normally I don't have a problem with bumping old topics so long as there is something to add, but there's little point doing that to polls when there are several new albums missing from it (we can't just edit them in on this forum software). This one only goes up to Gambling with the Devil (2007), so it's almost a decade out of date.
In future, please post an updated poll instead of bumping these old ones.

Bump, Walls of Jericho. One of the best debuts out there, and Ride the Sky just punches you in the gut when it starts.

Voted for Master of the Rings. It was their first album I bought and, if my memory serves me right, the second I heard. But the best could've just as well be Keeper I/II or Time of the Oath. Those four have been the dearest ones for me from their catalogue, might be that their status is a bit biased becaus of all the memories that relate to them. Nice to see some people honouring Keeper Legacy, I always thought that it was great too.
Well I love the band, and I think each of their albums have some good things on them. Helloween was one of the first bands that I got into, after Iron Maiden and alongside with Judas Priest and Dio, so they have a sort of a special place in my heart. Sadly their newest was a bit of a letdown for me after the very good Keeper III and the solid Gambling With the Devil.

Ride The Sky was my introduction to Helloween - I bought the first 3 "Speed Kills" compilation albums, and that song blew away most of the competition on Speed Kills II - only Anthrax's "Gung Ho" and Whiplash's "Warmonger" approached it in terms of we-are-not-worthy awesomeness.
Actually, thinking about it, most of the rest were pretty darn good too;
VA - Speed Kills Vol. 2 (1986)
1. The Calling - AGENT STEEL 2. Evil Invaders - RAZOR 3. Possessed - BATHORY 4. Ride The Sky - HELLOWEEN 5. Hellpike (Re-mix) - LIVING DEATH 6. Sepulchral Voice - SODOM 7. Warmonger - WHIPLASH 8. Rush Of Power - IRON ANGEL 9. Pounding Evil - DESTRUCTOR 10. Fight With The Beast - ONSLAUGHT 11. Brainfever (Re-mix) - BRAINFEVER 12. Gung-Ho - ANTHRAX
...of course, Speed Kills I was the superior album, which would have been perfect if Helloween, Anthrax and Whiplash had been on it...

I like it. There's a lot of good stuff on the Kai Hansen-fronted material, but the two first "Keeper..." albums are lightyears ahead of anything else by the band ("Keeper 3" is the closest runner up, but it is obvious that, when Kai Hansen left, Helloween really lost an important contributor, and it took them a long time to recover from that loss).

Since the poll is about favourite albums, I went for Chameleon; however insane it may sound, Chameleon is my favourite Helloween album. Surely not their best, but still it's my favourite; the album is diverse and I find the performance of the musician outstanding (IMO). And here we have Kiske's best vocal performance IMO.

The only album I have of this band is Keeper 1, and I love it. I wouldn't vote though

It seems that I will have to put Keeper 2 on my next list of purchases (I only have Keeper 1).

I meant to say because of the track called Halloween, not the title track.

Between the 2 Keepers. I'll go with Pt. 1 because of the title track.

Definitely Walls of Jericho as an album, but don't forget the EP is a really masterpiece in his own way, just listen to the guitar duel in Murderer and the speed that increase in Cry for Freedom after the first interlude, those songs really eclipsed most of his 90's material.

I listened to Unarmed yesterday for the first time and I enjoyed it alot. I love what they did with the songs by adding the orchestration and whatnot. Great album.

KoT7K Pt 1 got a bit cheesey for me, especially with all those dumb pumpkin heads - so I didn't venture into KoT7K Pt 2.
Walls of Jericho is their best album by far, IMHO, with "Ride The Sky" as the standout epic.
