These are the two BM albums of 2024 that have impressed me the most so far:

I've listened to a fair share of satanic black metal. Anybody know any good Christian black metal other than Antestor and Frosthardr? P.S.: Please don't mention Extol. Death metal, not black metal.

It's quite close in style to Immortal's last one. Even Abbath's vocals seem more in line with those delivered by Demonaz on that album, not so much his unique rasp. Seems like it might be quite the reactionary record to my ears.
I did enjoy it though. It's very well made and has the added benefit that he isn't doing what Demonaz is and continuing to scrape the old Blashyrkh barrel.

Yeah he's upped his game a lot. I haven't bought this yet because it's bloody expensive of Amazon, but what I've streamed has been much more impressive.

^ Me neither, his first one was okay but this is a big improvement. Haven't played it enough yet to decide if i like it better than the last Immortal album or not.

^ that's cool. I wasn't blown away by his first album. I guess he and Immortal are in competition now!

New one from Nachtlieder dropped a few days ago:
Her last album was one that really grew on me the more I listened to it and this one seems excellent right off the bat. Proof for me that straight up black metal still has a place within the increasingly diverse genre.

i^ it depends, I have a few albums with vocals. Black metal is not my thing, at least in its pure form. Blend it with something else, I might give it a try.

If it's the vocals that bother you, I can highly recommend Myrkur who mostly uses clean vocals:

I know have added instrumental acts while working on the sub-genre here, though I can't think of any names specifically. Let me get back to you.

I have a question for you. Is there any black metal that is only instrumental?
I only know Sannhet, which is a mix of black, post rock, post metal, even a bit of doom which is a nice experiment.

I'm aiming to have my review up this afternoon. I'm giving the rest of January over to rounding up 2017 and then properly focusing on 2018 starting next month.

This is a very good one from the tail end of 2017 that I nearly missed.
http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/evilfeast/elegies-of-the-stellar-wind More raw and fuzzy on the guitars that I usually like, but the combined atmosphere of that rawness and cold ambient synths give this one a medieval and majestic vibe. I spent more of my first listen admiring the ambient parts than the metal parts, which I guess is a bit odd even for an atmospheric black metal album, but it's all really coming together the second time around. This is looking like a top 5 black metal album for last year right now, along with Progenie Terrestre Pura, Pure Wrath, Esoctrilihum and Fen.
