MusicBrainz lists an album called "Leech" for The Melvins. We do not have this listed in their discography. I did a couple of searches and I wasn't able to find any information on this album. Is anybody familiar with what this is? |

- chicken switch : avoid as it is not an album per se, but a compilation of remixes
- stoner witch : belongs to their best - sieg howdy : didn't listen to it but uniting the driving force of Dead Kennedys with the Melvins must lead to an interesting result |

I saw their latest album at HMV today, but it was selling for 23 dollars!!!
I've also seen a few other albums of theirs at the store lately: Stoner Witch, Sieg Howdy (w/Jello Biafra), and Chicken Switch. Are these albums any good? |

Just listened to the whole album. What I can say is that it's as god as the two previous albums, which means that it's excellent ! |

They released a new album, which seems to sound very good on the basis of this album preview :

Didn't see this before. Bullhead followed by Lysol followed by Houdini. Pretty fine run of three there. They really were at the top of their game in the early/mid nineties. Each has its own definite sound, so your not just getting served up solid rehash material. I don't sick their albums on too often tho'.

You should start with Houdini in my opinion. It's kind of grungy, but you might like it!

Same. I've heard a lot of good things about them but never got around to buying any albums. Does anyone have a recommended starting point to get into them? |

Also one of the FIRST sludge bands ever. they paved the way for bands like Cult of Luna, Swans and the like. Gotta at least appreciate them
Love them by the way. Bullhead is fucking epic. |

I have 2 or 3 albums from them, of which Houdini in particular charms me a lot |

They're pretty good. I agree that their latest two albums are excellent.
I'm not big on their old-school punk stuff though. As for the "greatest sludge metal of all time" label... I don't think I would go THAT far. But they're still pretty good. |

I'm only familiar with the Melvins through their "big band" DVD with Fantomas. I should get around to checking out some of their own albums.

Ill have to check out The Melvins at some point. Its one of those bands that keep popping up on my radar but Ive never given them a chance.

I agree.
Their last two records are mandatory. I saw them live recently in PAris, and they seriously kicked ass. Edited by lucas - 29 Apr 2010 at 6:55am |
