I agree on reflection this isn't doom. I think I was looking to fit it somewhere, and death or prog metal didn't seem right either, although prog may be an option. AG may be the best place for it. Anyway, you guys are the experts.

Nooumena is a French band listed in PA http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=7389 under avant-rock. Now I've only heard their first album / demo called In Memory of a Next World, available for free download here - http://nooumena.bandcamp.com/album/in-memory-of-a-next-world. This first album is eclectic and progressive extreme metal, not avant prog rock. It's certainly metal. Have a listen, it's a good album. I'd be interested to hear another opinion.Their follow-up appears to be very different. Their record company describes the next as, "they play a very eclectic style of avant-prog rock" which suggests it is non-metal. This isn't the case with their original offering.
