Dont forget to mention that the number of collabs who can edit the most basic info on albums is actually pretty large. Its not a small 5 person group. All suggestions for changes are dealt with within a pretty short time span. Id say that part of PA is a pretty smooth running machine ( theres a thread where members can suggest changes). Ive personally suggested album cover changes a couple of times ( which is something Im not able to do myself on PA) and the changes happen pretty fast.

Well, on PA, selected members can edit more informations. But mostly it's a manual upgrade of selected members.

It should work in the same way (approx.) that it works on PA.
- Special collab.: subgenre teams - Special collab.: Reviews/shouts moderators For now they are the most important, and we will create the teams Monday with submission in the forum topic related. |

We will only have to wait until we have reached 100 posts to see if things work here as they do on PA. Hopefully there will be genre teams implemented soon, because a metal site needs them even more than a prog one does.

Just remember that my initial post said albums. Not artists. I assume the system with adding artists here on MMA will probably be a bit different from the one on PA. There are seperate teams for each sub on PA who evaluate each artists that is suggested. On PA they are evaluated to see if they are prog enough for that site. I assume that it will be a matter of determining which genre that a band will fit into more than determining how "metal" they are ( well they have to be metal of course, and borderline cases will always appear) on MMA. Only five star special collaborators on PA are able to add artists to the database. Im very interested to hear how the system will be here on MMA just like you.

Thanks, that cleared up quite a lot! So it's not 100% in the hands of admins to decide what is edited/added,
but it's also not a Wikipedia with all the vandalism. It sounds like a nice system (if it is how MMA works too, that is.)

You can edit album info and add albums to PA when you earn the third star ( correct me if Im wrong M@X or Phil) which prevents trolls and other nasty creatures to f**k up the database. People who stick around long enough to earn some stars ( which mostly happens because people write serious informative reviews, but also if they show dedication in the forum) usually have an interest in maintaning the site and not messing up the database. It works pretty well on PA IMO. The album covers are handled by a seperate team on PA. But thats only if you want to change what is already added, not if its a new album you add. About Bios its always possible to make the team which is responsible for a certain sub aware that something is wrong with a bio and of course offer you help correcting those wrongs. Thats how it works on PA. Maybe one of the two admins can say if thats how its gonna be here on MMA too? |

I must say that it's no the most effective way to increase the amount of bands & correcting wrong infos if it has to be done through a forum post. Am I just blind or is this the only way? Would love to be able to add / change wrong covers (there's tons of them without), as I don't feel like posting 1000 threads about every little error I see in releases.
I think RateYourMusic has quite a good system (voting etc) for adding / changing stuff. I know the site is very young, so this is more like a question that will there be another way? EDIT: I guess this is the way PA is handled too, so maybe it works then! I still need to get acquainted with this whole system, hehe. Edited by Vehemency - 27 Mar 2010 at 4:44am |
