We've decided to exclude Primus, Fishbone and FFF at least for the time being. As a site we're still in such a place that we need to cement our reputation as a credible source for metal, and controversial borderline additions like these three could harm that, as we see them being more funk rock than metal. Once we've established a reputation we could reconsider them, but this is where we stand at the moment Smile

I would have no problem with Primus being under alt metal. I think RHCP is Red Hot Chili Peppers, whose inclusion under alt metal I would also applaud.

I'm sure both bands have had some influence on many present-day metal artists. Also, back in the day, the music press also categorized both of them as metal acts - for what it's worth ;-)

I could see them fitting into alternative metal, but nowhere else.

They're under consideration for Alternative, but due to some real life business I have been embarrassingly slow evaluating new stuff Embarrassed Next week things should be better.

Primus aren't particularly avant at all - they have fairly conventional song structures and instrumentation. Alt metal would be a perfect fit.

How about,

Post-Prog Metal or Avant Garde is good in this case. Points: Humour, Odd playing styles, though Heavy
at times, has Progressive leanings.  Think of later King Crimson meets Zappa meets Monty Python Tongue.
Yes they can get Funky, but they also can be "...pretty bizarre Gus".
Those are my thoughts anyway . . .

BIG fan I am, oh . . . by the way . . . "Primus SUCKS" Clap

personally I think Primus is a bit of a stretch for a metal site but if people thought they should be here then...

cough cough... alternative metal would be a good fit... especially since Primus is mentioned in regards to it.

According to Wikipedia Primus are classified as "Funk Metal": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Primus_(band)
I'm not sure what subgenre of this site they would fit in best, maybe avant-garde metal?
I definitely think they deserve a spot on this site.
