Pain Of Salvation has some pretty awful stuff (of course some great material as well), but Opeth seems to have a much more complete and less flawed discography.

Opeth by a long shot. I do like Pain of Salvation but Opth just leave them for dead.

Opeth by miles. Although POS have done some good stuff there's too much by them that leaves me cold.

Opeth for me easily. I really like PoS, 'Entropia' is one of my favorite debut albums, but Opeth has the better discography. PoS's 'BE' and 'Road Salt One' are among the worst albums I've ever heard.

PoS make use of some cheap melodies and are too pretentious (even for me, that says something) in general IMO. They are very skilled musicians, though, and put those skills to use all the time, I guess that's what gets people.
PRE-Watershed Opeth hands down! The stuff they release today is okay but... well.

Opeth are more consistent in my view. PoS are a very decent prog metal band though, for sure.

This song is more "metalish", and one of my favorites (probably my favorite track off of OHbtCL):

Easy, Opeth is much better in my opinion. PoS is a decent band, but I don't like the way Gildenlow express emotions. It's banal to me. Opeth is more sophisticated in term of melodies.

Ohh this is a hard one...
While Opeth has Watershed and Still Life, PoS has BE and the Perfect Element. But, to break a trend here, I'm going with PoS. |

Opeth for sure. Although I don't mind PoS I find them rather boring and dull at times.
