Kyuss are the forrunners for the genre known as stoner rock/metal, and use alot of slow, heavy, sludging and dirty sound with alot off Doom metal like sound probably other genres could be also suggested but f.eks are Soundgarden labeld as doom metal and Kyuss share mutch of the same influences as Soundgarden (SG is also one influence on Kyuss)
just listen to the song Gardenia or the hole Walkome to Sky Valley most of their songs are long and psycahdelic down tuned guitar slow and tight drums, James Hetfield like vocals and other elements that i think will be a good inclution to Doom metal Edited by Balthamel - 01 Apr 2010 at 8:42am |

well i think they suits atleast one of the metal subs, but I hold to the Doom metal label, if I have read the inclusion rules there correctly then Kyuss is a perfect match. but I only have one album by them so Im not an expert

Oh yeah, they are cool. Doom? Probably not, they are a bit upbeat for that. But genrefication is gay anyway. :)

yes generefication can be a bit frustraiting somtimes (espessially if you are gonna label band like Soundgarden, Kyuss or like Mastodon), but my "autisticly" brain is upsesst about organisation and classification (well upsesst is probably wrong term).
I trye not to think genres, but somehow i find it usefull for organisate my own music, to find related bands, to make polls, lists, im a fan of encyclopedic knowledge and to know how much genres one band is capsulating in a long carear. just look at a band like Toto who have playd around al genres known to man. as for Kyuss probably Tradissional Heavy metal suits better Edited by Balthamel - 27 Mar 2010 at 5:30pm |

If there is no stoner as a subgenre, then traditional metal will be the next in line

I have Blues for the Red Sun, and I wouldn't really say it sounds like 'traditional' heavy metal to me. Hopefully in the future we will be able to enlarge and/or refine our genre listings, because, at least in my experience, metal fans are much keener on classification than prog fans, and we have to keep up the site's credibility.

If we include Stoner Metal as a subgenre, that is where Kyuss should fall. That is the same classification you would find for them on most any metal site, as well as on wikipedia.

I'M STILL WAITING, now ive changed the topic on the third attempt to add them here since Stoner Metal is not here yet i think Alternative metal is the most logical step so far.

I'm happy to consider them. Do we add QotSA too? I love them, but we're heading toward a grey zone.

They have more in common with doom than alternative, that to my understanding gathers funk metal, alternative rock, noise rock and groove metal bands. Edited by lucas - 01 Apr 2010 at 5:23pm |

but since there is none Stoner section yet then Alternative (or Doom ) metal is their most logical spot.
I feel Soundgarden and Kyuss have some similaritys, Soundgarden influenced Kyuss in a great deal. I have also read that Soundgarden can be also regarded as a pioneer to Stoner metal in some degree. Edited by Balthamel - 01 Apr 2010 at 5:13pm |

"stoner/doom metal" would be a solution to the problem.

Kyuss was added yesterday by Colt. Might have been in the doom metal section? Not sure, but I know that they were added yesterday.
