Topic: Favorite Metal Genre? Posted: 14 Jun 2016 at 11:54pm |
I know there's already a poll for this, but I thought it would be good to make a new one seeing as we've gotten more genres since then as well having more non-PA members on the site now.
As for me, it's probably a tie between Industrial, Thrash, and Power/US Power.

Sludge, thrash, avant-garde, black, doom, trad and metalcore / deathcore, with special mention to death, grind, prog, power and symphonic with hard rock, hardcore and crust too. Although it changes. Voted sludge.

Death, thrash, doom, grind, US power, progressive metal, speed, trad, groove, sludge, hardcore, hard rock in that order. The rest I´m only casually interested in (and that includes Black, which is the only extreme genre of music which I´ve never been too fond of, although there are exceptions).

Not sure I have a definite favourite. I know which genres I favour in general (power, trad, thrash, speed, black, doom and death) but as to picking one, I'll have to think on that. My current ratings would suggest power, but that may only be because I still haven't rated every band I've heard on here yet. I should really do that.

Very difficult to choose one but favourites include, death, doom, US power metal, thrash, trad and prog. If pushed....prog.
Bugger....must have been the angle i looked at it from but clicked sludge instead of prog.

I like it all. No exceptions. Every genre is awesome, however avant-garde and pushing limits and taking risks and evolving the genre gets extra points. Some of my favorite albums of all time are in this sub: Mr Bungle, Sleeptyime Gorilla Museum, Unexpect, Sigh, Dodheimsgard just to name a few :)

What about Diablo Swing Orchestra, I don't listen to a whole lot of avant-garde but I love DSO.

Yeah i do like them but i've only heard two albums. Pandora's Piñata and Sing Along Songs, so i can't call them my favorites but i do love their avant-garde approach. Was thinking about getting their other albums but keep getting side-tracked! Just got on a Moonsorrow kick and i impulse buy as well

I should restate that. I love all the subs except i'm not quite as familiar with deathcore and grindcore although i really love Pig Destroyer and Nasum. Just haven't gotten into those subs as much but will take Jonas' advice and check out Agoraphobic Nosebleed next

I definitely voted for Deathcore..... Just kidding, I obviously went with Power. Prog and Symphonic aren't too far behind, though.

I thinks it's interesting that metal bands are listed under widely varying subgenres, depending on the website. Leprous, Dream Theater, and Enslaved, for instance, are three bands that we can agree don't sound much like each other. Most of my favorite bands are considered progressive metal part of the time, but not always. All of these considerations suggest that we MMA members appreciate a wide variety of music, don't we?

Well put, Bosh66! Like some people, I find a lot of Metalcore/Deathcore bands to be generic. However, I love As I Lay Dying, and Born of Osiris are pure genius!

It's really a tie for me between alternative and doom. I'll pick doom this time because alt was my choice last time.
