Anyone know of any triple CD metal albums? Not counting live and compilations and any releases with bonus discs?
I came across one while researching my double albums poll, by a progressive power metal act called Fireaxe (not on MMA yet but I'll fix that soon). https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/fireaxe/food_for_the_gods/ Also how does everyone feel about the idea of a triple album? |

Can't think of any triple Cd albums, only vinyl like the last Iron Maiden but that was only a double on Cd. Frank Zappa had one or 2 but not metal of course.
I don't think many bands could pull off a triple album without a fair bit of filler but in theory I'm okay with the idea though I doubt I'd listen to it all back to back beyond the first play.

This one is, technically: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/schammasch/triangle
I say technically because in terms of actual length they could have done it in two discs.

There's this one as well, though I haven't heard it (the thought of a doom metal album lasting that long just terrifies me): http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/swallow-the-sun/songs-from-the-north-i-ii-and-iii

Extreme - Three Sides To Every Story, although it's not very extreme, it's not a very good story, it's not very metal, and it would probably fit on 2 CDs.

That's a good one, but obviously a heavy listen. First disc is traditional StS, the second is acoustic and the third is their take on funeral doom, so there's versatility to keep it interesting.

That's not a triple album. It's only 76:08 in length. That's single album on CD. I agree they weren't that extreme but i find this to be their best album

Here is a list of triple album releases. The Boris with Mersbow one may be metal but i've never heard it. Otherwise it looks like only Iron Maiden Book Of Souls was a triple release in the vinyl LP edition. Not sure metalheads would be patient enough for three albums in one! I probably wouldn't be :)

Never knew the actual length. It was promoted as being in three parts when it was released. I don't know what it's like because I avoided it like the plague. |

it's not a triple album it's their best work, a very good album. give it a chance, it's not your average hair metal album (it's not even glam metal if you ask me), you might be surprised

Most triples on the wikipedia list seem to be either live albums or compilations, which I wasn't counting. I'm only interested in triple studio albums and CD ones only. I'm not counting vinyl as they fit less music as albums like The Book of Souls show (Book is most definitely a double album in my mind, not a triple).
The Schammasch album mentioned looks quite interesting for my tastes even if it could all fit on a double. Quite intriued by Swallow the Sun as well. Regarding metalheads having the patience for a triple, I don't see why that should be. I've seen people postsing in the listening to thread before 'marathoning' a single artist's albums one after the other. No reason why a triple cannot be handled opposed to three (or more) singles in a row. |

I think you'd need a lot of quality material and then some additional justification to make and then actually pull off a genuine triple album. If a concept album requires it then I don't see why not (Ayreon could probably pull it off). Or something like that Swallow the Sun album seems justified where every disc is different, but again, it's actual length doesn't exceed what you could fit on two CD's. Same for Schammasch.
So far the Fireaxe album seems to be the only true triple album in terms of length mentioned here, as each disc almost takes up the full 80 minutes. Mind you I can't find any evidence that it was ever actually released on CD, only digital. It's available for free (legal) here if anyone thinks they can handle it: https://app.box.com/v/fireaxe-foodforthegods

The latest release of Esoctrilihum is a triple CD:
Although the total duration could have fit on two discs.

Too much quantity often descrease the quality of a product. Personally my attention probably couldnĀ“t be kept throughout a 3 CD release by the same band. I usually prefer short, to the point, high quality releases.

Esoctrilihum it's that kind of very prolific artist who could easily put a proper triple album Same with Senmuth and King Gizzard (although in the latter case the album probably wouldn't be a full metal album) And remember Buckethead, with his TREDECUPLE album! Also, The Paragon Trisagion from Potmos Hetoimos could easily be a triple CD album: https://www.metalmusicarchives.com/album/potmos-hetoimos/the-paragon-trisagion
