Looks good to me, though I'm not an expert on the genre. At least I found what I was looking for, I finally used the Loudtrax gift certificate I won in May on Flotsam and Jetsam's Doomsday for the Deceiver, thanks Now I notice they aren't in Thrash, but anyway found them

Oh man! You need an "Education" on Overkill 101 In order of Appearance: With original Line-up and the "1" Guitarist Bobby Gustafson- 2. Not their debut but a great place to start- "Taking Over". 3. Under the Influence 4. Years of Decay Gustafson starts off as an excellent Riff Master, but a "Noodler" when it came to Solos. Then by the time "Under the Influence" came out (I think at-least 2 years later) He seemed to have attended Guitar Tech University and Graduated with Honours! What a difference those years made for him! Really solid albums those 3. But apparently he was at odds with Bassist D.D. Verni over the direction of the Band (???). So came the years of various "Dual" Guitarists: 5. Horrorscope 7. W.F.O. I skipped their "6th" album "I Hear Black", it has a few good tracks but they were trying to see if they'd find success with the "new" sound gaining ground-The "Aggro" type Metal, a bit slower and even a bit "Doomy" and it failed miserably, for a few Years you could find it used at just about any outlit that sold CD's. Both Horrorscope and WFO feature Guitarists Rob Cannavino who had been Gustafson's guitar technician and Merritt Gant from Thrash Metal Band "Faith or Fear". Excellent Riffs and Solos between them. After WFO, the only 2 left of the original Line-up would be Vocalist Extraordinare (but on some of the later albums a bit too much-but then comes back down to earth) Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and Bassist Verni and many line-up changes. I thought these were the strongest releases, these are the core of what Overkill was but I have not had a chance to listen to their last 4 albums . Many tracks can be found on YOUtube as well as my Faves at Time Signatures Post that I "Linked" earlier (on other page) on "80's/90's Thrash". Oh what the 'ell, here ya' go (My post on page 1): http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=586 (Thot shed git ya' sum blasts ta' git yer Kilt Blewn Oaf! Ya Mod Scutsmun!) . . . I think you'll discover some cool stuff . Edited by MAVIIIVAM - 20 Aug 2010 at 2:22am |

It's funny, I love thrash metal and like to listen to bands from my home NJ and for some reason I just never got around to overkill. Then over time, well out of mind I guess. Also as I got more into pro I turned away from thrash for a while.
Thankfully my love for it is back. I am going to look into them for sure! |

I just listened to Invocators Dying to Live (1995) album again after not having listened to the album for many years. What a great tech thrash metal album! Anyone familiar with Invocator ( well besides you Time Sig)?

Darkisideof - You may like this Thread : http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=26&PN=1 But absolutely love (I'd write comments next to all but I'm tired): Iron Maiden Megadeth Metallica (up to "...And Justice for All) Voidvod (Huge fan of "The Outer Limits" and earlier works) Dream Theater (a fan since "WDADU" . . . on LP!) Symphony X Opeth Pagan's Mind Nightwish (just now getting more into them and appreciating it more these days) Riverside Angra Dreamscape Pain Of Salvation Judas Priest Enchant (Such an underated and great Band!) Zero Hour (Incredible!) Winds Watchtower (The Math Metal Pioneers along with "Cacophony") Fates Warning (The Arch era as well-as Alder) Andromeda (Been a fan since their 1st "printing" of the original debut with "Lawrence Mackrory" on vocals ) Ark (My Fave "Jrn" Band) Ayreon (Arjen is a genius! Love his other projects as well) Dominici (Have been a fan of his since buying Dream Theaters "WDADU" on LP!) Hourglass (Nice! Really cool band!) OSI (Kevin, Matheos, Portnoy and Harrison have succesfully combined Radio Head meets Dream Theater ) Sieges Even (Very sad they are not together anymore, but we have "Subsignal" ) Tool Vanden Plas Circus Maximus (The others you listed I am not familiar with but would like to check them out , G&R . . . I DONT want to be familiar with ) . Again, forgive me everyone, for those who love these type of Bands, please checkout: PrOgulus.com: http://www.progulus.com/rprweb/playing.php An ALL Request "Juke Box" driven Prog Rock/Metal Internet Radio Station out of Windsor Colorado . Most of the bands listed above can be found there, and a TON of others. Hmmm . . . I need to find the time to add another List of Obscure Thrash Bands here and work on a Thread for Technical-Thrash/Prog/Math Metal, maybe by 2013.
Oh and Sadus are pretty cool, I need to listen to their later albums but theyre debut is probably one of the 1st Extreme Death Metal albums out there (keep in mind it debuted in 1990), called "Swallowed in Black" : Good Rid'nz - Steve DiGiorgio playing his Fretless Bass is incredible! Swallowed in Black is a pretty awsome album. I even named my old death/ doom metal act after the song Last Abide (http://www.myspace.com/lastabide) from the album. I didnt really enjoy A Vision too much back then but I will give it a re-listen before I write my review sometime in the future.

Sorry dont mean to go into a "Prog Tangent" but I need to hear "Collage, Explostions In The Sky, and WLP" as I see their albums at a cool little record Store in Claremont Ca. My "collection" is quite extensive in Prog, Metal, Thrash and Death Metal so I've had many "stages" in this music to enjoy and been around when all those genres were . . . *cough! . . . invented (I'm 47) . . . so who are you callin' "Kiddo" ?
Thats weird, I thought the same when I had it, I may have to sample it on YOUtube to refresh my memory. Edited by MAVIIIVAM - 02 Sep 2010 at 2:26am |

Nononononono . . . Hmm, thats what I thought, you mis-understood, the bands I put on my long list that I copied from yours are the ones I have heard (In my collection and heard on PrOgulus) . Your list is pretty much a staple at prOgulus. I see and hear soo much obscure stuff there, I now base my purchases on the "Album Covers" I recognize from bands I liked on the station when I go to my fave music stores ! Or . . . I was into many of the Bands when they debuted from blind picks or reading Trade Mags many years ago . The ones I have not heard I "left out" (hehe, you didnt notice the Bands not listed from your original) . . .I'm confused now, is everyone else ? The bands I dont know are from your original List (well only 2): Never ending story VII Strada and Guns and Bozos who I heard enough over the years, if I wanted sloppy Hard Rock, I'll take any Aerosmith up to "Done with Mirrors", at-least they do right . But the Aerosmith of the last 15 years is all about sappy ballads that find its way to Movie Soundtracks and Top40 radio, and "Lifestyle maintenence", not because they are hungry and want to prove something . . . "Yesterdays gone, it went by, like dusk to dawn . . ." But back to the THRASH topic . . . Edited by MAVIIIVAM - 11 Sep 2010 at 3:12pm |

Neverending story is project album by Sebastien Anborg from Light Of Nova. it real heavy istrumetal album He plays all the instruments. VII Strada is Italian prgmetal band that sings in Italian. real good stuff. I have a real soft spot for G&R first album. It was one the very first hard rock/metal albums that I really liked. Now they are a joke! and Aerosmith has some real good songs but some that I real don't like at all. |

No mentions of Rigor Mortis yet? Their s/t is a surefire thrash essential:
Mike Scaccia is next only to Marty among my favourite thrash soloists. |
