I've got super behind on these again and I've been binding a lot before my month's worth of BFI player ran out (although not all these movies were watched through BFI). Following are just the highlights:
The sequel to Yojimbo. Not quite as good but still solid. This one was great. It inspired Star Wars considerably and even the scene transition style in SW is identical to this movie. Entertaining 40's black comedy. This was a great neo-noir crime movie. Similar in some small respects to the much more recent film Drive, but no actual relation. A disturbing movie showing how easily one child's lie can destroy an innocent man's life. Probably the best adaptation of MacBeth I've seen. Mainly watched it for Bergman, but also out of interest in the director's work. One of a few of his films I watched, I enjoyed this one the most. Great spy thriller with Michael Caine. Quite entertaining black comedy. Excellent J-Horror movie. Very good crime drama.

I've taken a month's worth of Arrow Video's Prime channel now, so expect some obscure giallo, horror and thriller types from me for a while.
Highlights so far: Both good giallo films. The original Japanese version. I'd wanted to see if for a while since the US film has been an old favourite of mine. Turns out it's a very faithful remake of this one so while I enjoyed this greatly I don't think seeing it actually added anything to what the US one offered. I shall watch it's sequels at some point though. Very entertaining spaghetti western with a very high body count. Other movies watched: The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave (1971) Texas, Adios (1966) Vampyres (1974) The Pyjama Girl Case (1977)

Exceptionally violent and action packed, as we´ve come to expect from a John Wich movie....oh and a fourth movie is definitely in the making with this ending: Edited by UMUR - 15 Sep 2019 at 2:46am |

Recent highlights:
I preferred the original Norwegian film but this English language remake by the same director is pretty good too. The humour, for me, comes out better due to being in my own language. An unfair comparison since this is older but it's basically The Hunger Games, done much more extremely. I knew that Tarantino was influenced by this movie for Kill Bill, but I didn't realise it was to such an extent until watching this. You could almost say Kill Bill was a remake. Pretty good 'corrupt cops' film with Kurt Russell. Pretty good entry in the 'only ones left alive' sub-genre of post-apocalyptic fiction. The ending is more ambiguous than I'd like. Good though slow burning J-horror. This is a top tier lesser known Japanese crime film. Excellent Argento giallo. Another great giallo. Managed to fool me over whodunit. Almost a great giallo. Again managed to fool me. Others: The Burning (1981) House (1986) Stormy Monday (1988) Demons (1985) Sartana the Gravedigger (1969) The Possessed (1965) Horrors of Malformed Men (1969) The Witch Who Came From the Sea (1976) The Suspicious Death of a Minor (1975) House II: The Second Story (1987) Blind Woman's Curse (1970) The Strangers (2008) The Bloodstained Butterfly (1971)

Last four movies watched. All solid but no standouts I feel the need to fetch a poster for:
The Perfume of the Lady in Black (1974) The Hills Have Eyes (1977) Horror Express (1972) Blood Rage (1987) It's been a very 70's dominate month so far.

I'm well behind here again. But here's my highlights since my last post:
Good Japanese sci-fi. Quite the crime gem. The premise seems really dumb, but it's a very fun movie though very much a product of it's time. Good period drama. Not the best recent war film I've seen, I think that still has to be Hacksaw Ridge, but it came close. Underrated movie IMO. One of the best recent westerns this side of The Hateful Eight, and also one of the most unique I've ever seen. Solid western. A great is rather embellished true story. This one may even go up in my estimations after a re-watch, but it's far too weird to say I completely got it after one viewing.

Disturbing and gory Korean crime thriller. This isn't really a 'highlight' like I've been restricting the movies I post to recently, but it is worth commenting on. As it is it's an okay movie, but also the biggest disappointment I've seen for a long time. With the unusual quirky title you'd think it would be a black comedy or at least a comedy of some description. It isn't. Instead they play it out as a drama which doesn't work on so many levels but with so many scenes it's so easy to imagine how it could have been a gem as a black comedy. So much wasted potential here. Solid Liam Neeson thriller. I don't usually post the poster for re-watches, but I actually liked this one even more the second time around and it's the kind of film where I feel like I may like it even more when I eventually watch it again (because I certainly will watch this one again). It's a shame that this is so underappreciated. It's a real gem. Which leads me onto: I hadn't seen the sequel before. I found it just as good as the first one. I can't actually remember the last comedy movie I saw for the first time that had me laughing out loud as much as this one. This was one of only three times that Eastwood reprised a role (the others being his Man with No Name and Dirty Harry performances) and again it's a real shame these are so overlooked in his acting filmography. Bloody brilliant.
