Basically what it says on the tin! Post any album covers you think are HEAVILY misleading to the music they contain within! I'll start off w/ what I think is a rather notorious one: I mean, COME on! How can you look at that and think it's NOT a heavy metal album? Sure enough it's some sort of pop-rock kind of deal...go figure!

I think most Meat Loaf album covers would fall under misleading lol.
This honestly isn't exactly misleading, as it does fit the really dark atmosphere this album has, but you've got to admit it looks more doom metal than hip hop! A famous example, no Manowar/Cirith Ungol/Manilla Road stuff here.

^Ah, yes! All great examples. I'm surprised I didn't remember that Throbbing Gristle one...and yeah that Cypress Hill one DEFINITELY looks like a doom metal album cover lol!

Contains atmospheric black/sludge metal. Contains blackgaze. Haven't ever heard it but the thing is black metal and coloured pink, so... It may feature their mascot like many of their artworks, but this one really looks more like a death metal cover than a heavy/power metal cover to me. Contains progressive death metal.

This one could also be mistaken from (tech?) death metal instead of heavy/power metal I think.

^and that font on the bottom looks like it came from some self-released album you'd find at a thrift store lol.
Probably the most misleading album cover ever made. Looks like a badass 70's metal album, but is unfortunately a 70's arty rock album.

Listening to this album right now, which has a cover that looks more fitting for a Christian doom metal album than an early 90's techno album:
Edit: I think the cover uses the same artwork as Candlemass Tales of Creation just flipped the other way.

seeing this cover a while ago, I thought it's some prog, prog-folk , but no, it's believe it or not black metal.

Yeah that definitely screams "prog" or "power metal" to me.

you'd think it's some extreme metal album cover, but it's just a psychedelic/heavy prog one

ok, one more
what can this be? Well for those who don't know it's the cover from a death metal band - Chapel of Disease - And as We Have Seen the Storm. It's looks like anything but death metal. And a great album, too.

It might just be me but I've thought for a while that Katatonia's debut looked more like some old prog or psych record than 90's death-doom.

One of the most misleading covers of all-time IMO.
