Once you get past the animated dog, this is actually a pretty good family friendly adventure movie. Having never read the book, I had no idea what to expect. I now want to.

James Bond vs James T. Kirk #12
A redemption/comedy/ecological warning movie. Copped a bit of criticism for not being serious enough because some of it was played for laughs ("where are the nuclear wessels?"), but also had some very serious messages. Some truly cringeworthy moments, but a lot of fun otherwise. And then this: Spaghetti Western at it's comedic best. You can't go past Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer for over-the-top slapstick western fight scenes. And I also learned both men were Italian!

Have you seen My Name is Nobody? That's another comedy western with Terrence Hill (and Henry Fonda). My Dad and I found it on YouTube a while back (it's a hard film to get in the UK normally) and we were thoroughly entertained.

I only watched it recently, but I found myself just wanting to watch it again already. This has now become one of my favourite horror movies. The whole thing is just so creepy and ominous (the music is perfection). I've seen it three times now and I'm floored every damn time.

Does anybody know why the William Friedkin movie "Rampage" is almost impossible to find a copy of?

Possibly rights issues. We can get it in standard def digitally in the UK on Amazon Prime, but no HD. Far as I can see we haven't had a physical release of it since the VHS days. There's a lot of movies we can't get here in any format still.

Noroi: The Curse is another one I'm having a hard time finding, but foreign films seem more understandable. It's not like Friedkin is an obscure director

I'm surprised sometimes by the profile of the director or star for films that we can't get.
We can get Noroi: The Curse on Shudder here. Unsure about anywhere else. It's one I intend to watch next time I take a month on Shudder.

Very good war film on a lesser known conflict. Perhaps a little overlong, but decent. The nice of modern action thriller with a very recognisable cast that most movie buffs turn their nose up at and much more entertaining that any high brow movie could ever hope to be. Meh. Not awful but did little for me. Poor quality on Prime too despite being in HD.

What a waste of time that was. Takes an hour for anything meaningful to the advertised plot to actually happen and it's barely a 90 minute movie. Then it tries to make up for it with excessive gore that makes upon conclusion the bear attack scene in The Revenant look like Hugh Glass just had a tussle with Winnie the Pooh, but by that time the movie's dragged you along for so long that you'll probably end up rooting for the bear. The remainder of the movie proceeds along a plodding chase scene. The movie is loosely based on a true story except it kills the man off instead of the woman, because a horror movie's got to have it's final girl even when it's a dirty great black bear instead of Michael Myers knocking people off and it just proves that not every horrifying true event needs a movie based on it. Not only one of the worst but also most pointless movies I've seen in ages.

Not a bad De Palma movie but it doesn't feel worthwhile until the second half. Starting to wonder of there even are any really good De Palma's post-Carlito's Way, or whether that's his last great movie. And a couple of re-watchs: Another J-Horror rapid re-watch which was inspired by how much Pulse floored me even after not waiting very long between viewings. Unfortunately lightening didn't strike twice, but this is still a great movie. I will probably revisit the English language one again as well soon to see how they hold up against each other. I've had the other movie for years otherwise I probably wouldn't bother to watch it, like I have no plans to watch the re-makes of Pulse or Dark Water. Great 1949 film noir. The truck crash scene is very well done for its time.
