it might have been more effective if I wasn't hoping for every single character to die

First anime feature from ex-Studio Ghibli people and it looks like they aim to continue that style and legacy. Unfortunately I felt my experience of it was lowered by the fact it was dubbed, not subbed. Because of course a UK TV channel isn't going to show a subtitled animated movie if they can help it.

This movie is pure cringe, though it did earn a few laughs. Jim Carrey can get a bit too much for me sometimes though and that's definitely the case here.

You're really left wondering just who was more off their head in this one.

James Bond vs James T. Kirk #13
I can see why George Lazenby didn't last. He's a perfectly adequate Bond, but Bond needs to be more than that. Some brilliantly silly chases and fights to distract from Lazenby's adequacy. Diana Rigg and Telly Savalas were wasted by being given sub-par characters to play. And who the fuck thought it was a good idea for Bond to get married?

This was brilliant. I read a couple of Leslie Thomas' Virgin Soldier books many years ago (when I was still at high school!), and this film does justice to Thomas' tragi-comic style. Hywel Bennett makes a great Brigg. An added highlight was the discovery of a young Geoffrey Hughes (Onslow from Keeping Up Appearances, Twiggy from The Royle Family) playing Lantry.
