My third Von Trier's movie I've watched. Just got back from cinema and man I'm really impressed. Bjork's acting considering she's an amateur is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.

A re-watch and it was better the second time around now that I'm better versed in the genre. RYM genres are off, of course, but I can hardly do RYM satire for this one when the movie is literally mentioned as an example of the genre (Kaidan) in its description. And yet it is missing the basic requirement of a Kaidan, that of being set in the Edo period. But unless they had electric lights, telephones, cars and markets of tourist tat in the Edo period, this ain't no Kaidan movie. It is much more atmospheric and creepy than a typical Yakuza movie though. And the Yakuza depicted in the film are old fashioned, opting for swords instead of guns, which may explain the confusion.

Better than I hoped it would be, although it was relatively predictable. A dystopian sci-fi tale: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238380/

Surprisingly decent zombie film considering it was made as an unofficial sequel to Dawn of the Dead (which I've still not even seen). Bit of a hidden gem.

Quite a dark neo-noir movie involving industrial espionage. Gets more and more extreme as it goes and ends up with a real 'trust no one' vibe. I wouldn't call any character sympathetic. RYM Satire Time now! Demonlover: A French company attempts to close a deal with a Japanese anime studio (which turns out to actually be hentai), who then try to make a further deal with an American company looking to completely shut out their biggest competitor, but may actually be a front for a dark web torture porn site. But who is working for who? RYM Genre Police: This is science fiction, specifically Tech-Noir with Cyberpunk elements. Major facepalms on this one. What's worse is they're shot Neo-Noir, which it legitimately is, down for Tech-Noir. It's a very good movie. Definitely not a movie for everyone though and also not one I'd care to put myself through twice.

Quite a disappointment. It's neither as off the wall or as entertaining as its premise suggests and is basically just one fight scene after another with little delving into the mythology behind it all. It might have still worked if it had been a shorter movie, but this thing runs over two hours (with only about ten minutes difference between the theatrical and ultimate cuts), which it definitely didn't need to. What it offers has just about run dry by the one hour mark.

it was marketed as a sequel just to get attention, the two movies don't have anything in common, other than that they're zombie movies. You haven't seen the original Dawn of the Dead? I'm surprised because i see you are a movie buff. |

It's one of those movies that never seems to be on anything here. I saw Night of the Living Dead a while back and have been keeping an eye out ever since, but no sign of it.

Well, if you liked the original Night of the Living Dead, you'll like Dawn of the Dead. Also the 1990 remake of Night of the Living Dead, produced by Romero and directed by Tom Savini, is worth a watch.

Another industrial espionage movie, this time from Japan and about two rival car manufacturers. It's from the early 60s but has a black and white film noir style like Kurosawa's High and Low from around the same time, although this one is largely forgotten to history now. While nowhere near the level of Kurosawa's noir work, this is a pretty solid hidden gem given new life by Arrow Video.

Yeah I like the 1990 remake too. Of course you´ll have to watch the last piece of the trilogy too: "Day of the Dead", although my favorite is definitely "Dawn of the Dead" (the original): https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0088993/ This guy is pretty damn funny Edited by UMUR - 03 May 2021 at 9:12am |

Both Dawn and Day of the Dead are among a number of movies I consider my priority to get to see.
I put together the following 100 a little while ago: https://www.listchallenges.com/the-movies-adam-still-most-wants-to-see I've only cleared 3 from it so far: Barking Dogs Never Bite, Memories of Murder and To Live and Die in L.A. I have a few more lined up ready to watch though.

Never seen this before. The music was great, but it's not the livest "live" I have ever heard from Metallica. Pretty good setlist. The story happening around it was a bit confused and not particularly compelling. It just seemed like an excuse to show off a few special effects and stunts. A normal concert movie might have been better, but Metallica have never done things the conventional way. Sometimes it has paid off. This time it cost them a lot of money.

Another solid Yakuza movie from Kinji Fukasaku. Stood out more than some for me, which tend to blur together a bit.

Finally got to see this. It's excellent. The huge difference in rich and poor is easily visible almost everywhere in Korea, and like The Host it was great to see characters from the poor side of town. Loved the ending.

Even my Dad liked it and I struggle to get him to watch Asian film.
