No one does comedy quite like the French... I saw this many years ago when I was living in Korea. It was still in French, with Korean subtitles, which meant monolingual me (well I DO know a little French, but this was beyond me!) could only guess at what was going on. Just watched it with subtitles. I'd got the gist, but missed a lot of the subtleties. And with it being French, I've probably missed a lot more in translation. Jean Reno is excellent, playing things deadpan straight, while chaos reigns around him.

Jason himself is a bit limp, but the animations here are amazing for their time! I remember the skeletons, but had forgotten the other amazing mythical creatures. Anyway, good Greek legend fun to be had by all!

Great naval action, but also brings a very human and emotional side to war. Tom Hanks plays a captain who's only too aware of the lives being lost around him.

Not amazingly good, but not near as bad as it's made out to be. This whole movie looks great, and it's a strong story. The biggest fault lies with Jaden Smith. He hasn't got the presence to carry a movie like this when so much of it is him on his own. He just seems out of his depth. Perhaps with a couple more years acting experience this would have been a stronger finished product.

A trucking movie without much actual trucking, and a Chuck Norris movie without much Chuck Norris-ing. It's 75 minutes of pretty boring and cliched set-up for 10 minutes of pretty decent action. I have a feeling I saw this when I was little, as I clearly remember a scene similar to the fiery truck vs helicopter situation at the end of the movie.

Fuck me, that's a hard watch! Slavery was and is pure fucking evil, and you'll probably never see a more graphic telling than this. Amazing cast, horrible story (as in subject matter, not writing quality), and fully deserving of all the accolades and praise it's ever got.

Encanto made me want to check out some of the main Disney canon I've never seen, so I've started with a movie that was very hyped a few years ago (or at least a certain song was), but I somehow always avoided without really meaning to:

I quite enjoyed it. Not top tier Disney, and I'm a sucker for wintery films. So this in turn led me to:

Which isn't as good as the first, but still quite good.

And now I'm currently watching:

Which is a film for years I'd been convinced I'd seen, but begun to doubt myself and it turns out I haven't. I think I must have just seen the trailer so many times as a kid that in later life I thought I saw it.

Other films watched recently:

This is an oddball. It somehow manages to be boring yet intriguing at the same time, as paradoxical as that sounds. Ultimately I don't think it took the idea far enough, certainly not as far as the title would suggest. And I keep wondering why there's a wookie in this.

A twist on Hansel and Gretel. Not too bad.

A remake of a classic western which makes me want to see  the original. Great cast, lots of gunplay, good strong story, and tension right to the end.

Weird. Loved the slice of life in Mexico side of it, but the sci-fi element seemed a bit gratuitous and metaphoric at the same time.

A rare case where both original and remake are excellent.

A meta-musical about making a musical. Starts slow, but ends massive. This is the movie that saved both Warner Brothers and big screen musicals, and established the career of Busby Berkeley, the greatest choreographer of his time.

This kinda sucked. Unbreakable and Split were both decent films, but this is just a snoozefest that tries way too hard to be meta. McAvoy at least continues his powerhouse performance from Split but it's about all it has going for it. It's the kind of sequel that actually ruins the prior movie for me, at least where Unbreakable is concerned.

Another Turkish drama from the director of Winter Sleep. Also really good and compelling and definitely earns its three hour length.

Incubus (1965 - US): A movie in Esperanto language. Watching this film was tantamount to reading a high-calibre fantastical gothic horror book; just as enjoyable. Delightfully eerie theme music was one of its highlights. A real treat, and seemingly an underappreciated gem. 8.5/10

Saw that a while back. William Shatner said he learned all his lines phonetically, and didn't actually understand much Esperanto.

^ Such details can add oddity to such movies. Thanks for the info!
