As far as sports films go, I haven't seem many better at recreating the actual sports action. Some of the characters here are played by their real life sons. It's long, and there's Indian musical montages, but this is all round entertaining.

Had never seen this before. Interesting fact: Kathryn Beaumont, the actress who voiced Alice, is still alive.

It's seemed like we've been living this for the past couple of years, except it's COVID that's been coming and not clouds of radiation. Quite the all-star cast. The Australian Grand Prix is a particular highlight, and it goes a bit Mad Max for a bit.

Columbia Noir #3 disc 3: The Sniper
Here's a rarity: a 1950s movie that holds a 15 rating in the UK even today (almost everything pre-1960 is rated PG in the UK, with a few scattered 12 certificates). And its easy to see why. This one delves into the kind of subjects most films of the age steered well clear of. It also serves as a cautionary tale, making it's villain sympathetic to the viewer, as they are forced to watch as his cries for help go unheeded by those with the power to get him the psychiatric he actually knows he needs. And the Three Stooges: Not their strongest short. Not their worst either. The second act is better than the first. Guy Ritchie's latest. Getting middling reviews, but this was a solid 8. Would even be a 9 if some parts weren't so confusing (it does all come clear though, unlike that total mess of a film he made called Revolver). Chaplin drops (most of) the slapstick and turns to black comedy drama. The condition of the film on this one isn't as good as some in the set, with some visible artefacts, but the film itself is really good as usual.

Another sports movie, based on a true story. There's a big focus here on the issues leading up to the fixed series, and the consequences afterward. The actual baseball action is pretty good too, with most of the actors having reasonable real-world skills, particularly John Cusack and Charlie Sheen.

Technically a Spaghetti Western, but by a US director (same guy who did The Magnificent Seven) so it feels much more like a US made western. Heavy on the drama and devoid of the flashy stuff. It was solid right through all the same, but then the ending happened. And the ending sucked. Who the fuck wants to see Charles Bronson just give up and ride away into the sunset leaving the villain still alive? Frustrating movie. This one is supposed to be a bonafide masterpiece, but for me it fell into that category of French film that just seems plodding and boring. The story itself is inspiring, as most tales of wartime resistance based in fact are, but for a film that's been on my most wanted to see for some time this was a total letdown. Next up is Columbia Noir 3 Disc 6: City of Fear Not the best film in the set, but definitely solid, although the idea is one also used in more famous noirs have also used. And the last Three Stooges of this set: Later day Stooges, with Joe. Easily the best I've seen with Joe in it. Pretty sure they must have used footage cut from other shorts in this though. At one point Larry's hair goes noticeably shorter and less unkempt then goes back to his usual wild look a couple of minutes later. This was a really good 1950s horror. The demon only actually appears a couple of times, but the effects seem pretty great for the film's age. First film in a Hammer boxset I bought, despite Hammer not being credited for it! Rather corny but very solid and entertaining.

Not seen this in a lot of years. That was really entertaining! All the 80s yuppie bullshit seemed to be spot on. The only scene I don't like is the chainsaw scene. As a chainsaw owner, I know damn well a chainsaw wouldn't do that (won't elaborate - possible spoiler).

This has to be the most visually stunning movie I've seen in some time.

I picked this up as a blind buy in Indicator's recent sale, completely unaware that it's an earlier version of Convicted, another film I got in the same bundle. I'm not sure which one is better really. This one feels more fast paced, despite being ever so slightly longer. As a 1930s film compared to a 1950s film this one's quality is also a bit rougher, but the performance is more impassioned in certain key scenes. The remake had Glenn Ford as the unlucky underdog though, which is always a plus. Overall this one may edge the remake out slightly though.

Well, that's a wasted hour and a half I'll never get back Mila Kunis is rightly ashamed of this movie. William Shatner won't be, because he's long past needing to feel shame for anything and really wouldn't give a fuck. It has only the most tenuous link to the original American Psycho, and Bret Easton Ellis has publicly denounced it.

This was never supposed to be anything to do with American Psycho. The studio just decided to add a small tie to it to try to make some extra $$$. On my list of movies I never want to watch.

This was really quite good. An ill fated offering from Hammer released onto a world that didn't know what to do with it, marketing it as a horror movie (it's a period drama about smuggling with some horror undertones, none of which is supernatural) and paring it as part of a double feature with some odd choices of movie including a neo-western and a Cold War thriller. It also later got paired with Hitchcock's The Birds, which it isn't that suited against either. While perhaps fairly described as a B movie, it does have Hammer mainstay Peter Cushing and is a bit of a hidden gem. Second movie from my four film Hammer boxset. This was solid darkly comic psych drama.
