That filmmaker has made some pretty great Danish movies...always moving between extremely dark topics and equally dark comic. I can easily recommend every movie made by Anders Thomas Jensen: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0421314/?ref_=tt_ov_dr

I've previously seen Men & Chicken which had some of the same cast as well. Odd film!

A rewatch of a Christmas favourite. The best live action Discworld adaptation.

OK, that was fucking brilliant. Ultra-violent, ultra-gory, fucking funny, and lots of swearing.

A very gentle family oriented story, but I didn't find it particularly engaging.

Also known as Cactus Jack. Tries really hard to be a live action version of a cartoon Western villain, and has lots of Wile E. Coyote-style slapstick in it, but ultimately not very good. Stars Kirk Douglas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Ann-Margaret.

So the new big budget Netflix sci-fi movie Rebel Moon... It looks nice, but the story, the acting, the dialogue...ugh it´s such a drag: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14998742/

I thought that was Star Wars related, but it's not! I'm gonna risk it...

OK, I'm gonna go against the prevailing opinions I've read and say I like this. It's got an aesthetic which owes as much to Firefly as to Star Wars, but also has a brutality which neither of those have. I'll keep watching if more come out.

^It´s not terrible, but it had the potential to be so much better, hence my disappointment. Definitely Star Wars influenced. I don´t see much Firefly in this one.

From what I understand, it was supposed to be a Star Wars movie early in development, but things didn't work out, so he re-purposed it as its own thing. I think I've only seen two of his movies (Watchmen and Man of Steel), but from trailers and reviews, I get the impression his movies are grim dark and joyless just for the sake of it, with no real point, and the trailer I saw for Rebel Moon gave me that same impression. I may try it one night as a joke, but I'm not expecting much from it, lol He has said the second one is already good to go, and will be out sometime next year. It was marketed as a two-parter.

51 in common with you there.
I'll be posting my yearly lists at some point soon. Might let them sit for a week because New Year is the worst time to post on LC due to the influx of such lists. My yearly movie list is nowhere near as extensive this year but my albums and books lists are considerably longer than 2022. I will finish my 92nd and last book for 2023 today and have played 770 different albums across the year.

I'm really NOT the target audience for this. My granddaughter (aged 15) loved it and now she's reading the books. I thought I'd check it out to see what the hype is all about. I can see why teens love it though, but it really isn't my cup of tea...

Sitting at home sick is a good chance to catch up on movies you've always wanted to see. Loved Peter Lorre, who was the inspiration for Ren from Ren and Stimpy.

Big dumb fun shooty sci-fi movie that doesn't get time travel quite right, but not dreadfully wrong.
