Jazz artist/band recommendations?

   I really wanna explore jazz more as my experience is quite limited. The only jazz artists/bands I know of are John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Mccoy Turner, Snarky Puppy, Caravan Palace, and Diablo Swing Orchestra. If any of you guys have recommendations, I'm all ears!

	Sorry I´m pretty much a novice in that area too. I usually find jazz grating on my ears (says the man who can fall aslepp peacefully while listening to Napalm Death ). I´ve listened to som jazz/rock like Mahavishnu Orchestra, Al Di Meola, Billly Copham and such, but seldom "real" jazz.

	Just moved this to general music discussions. I'm no jazz expert but I have listened to a lot of fusion/jazz rock. For pure jazz you could give Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker and Jackie Mclean a go. Only discovered the latter a few years back myself and if you like hard bop it's good stuff. 	Check out Friday Night in San Francisco. Three monsters of jazz guitar all shred together. Its so goddamn good and Im not some super jazz fan either but holy shit. Paco de Lucia, Al Di Meola & John McLaughlin.

	Jazz is an even bigger genre of exploration than even metal because it's well over a century old now. It really depends how deep you want to dig. There are dozens of subgenres. It started with The Original Dixieland Orchestra in the 1910s so i highly recommend them. Coltrane and Miles Davis are arguably the biggest jazz stars of all time but i totally recommend the following as a small sample just to begin to explore. Charles Mingus (Hard Bop, Third Stream, Avant-jazz Sun Ra (Avant and experimental jazz) Pharoah Sanders (Spiritual jazz) Herbie Hancok (Hard Bop, Jazz Fusion, Jazz Funk) Ornette Coleman (Avant-jazz) Dave Brubeck (Cool jazz) Duke Ellington (Big Band) McCoy Tuner (Post Bop) Thelonious Monk (Hard Bop) Peter Brotzmann (European Free Jazz) Frank Sinatra (Vocal jazz) Eberhard Weber (Chamber jazz, Third Stream, ECM Style jazz) Cecil Taylor (Avant and Free jazz) i could go on and on and on because jazz is one of my top 3 specialties after metal and progressive rock but i'll stop now. Go to Rate Your Music and check out the highest rated albums and just start exploring. The popular consensus is fairly right on when it comes to jazz on that site :)

	One I came across the other day was Stan Getz. He's most famous for The Girl From Ipanema. I suppose that might make him the easy listening of jazz? I don't know.
