Christ, I feel like a reading noob compared to the rest of you...I'm
still reading the Wheel of Time series and it's basically the first
series I'll have read anything of and completed. That being said I AM
becoming more and more of a bookworm, so I'll catch up to you's all...in
time!

Wheel of Time looks really daunting to start. I've never read it except New Spring which I read out of sequence and was probably too young for as well. I actually have the entire set, one of a few longer series I need to properly start. I don't think I could read the whole lot of those one after the other. Probably one, maybe two every so often once I dig into them.

I just finished reading Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, which is a great starting point if you want to learn more about finance. It gives a fresh perspective on assets, liabilities, and how to build wealth over time. I’m also using rocketmoney to help manage my finances better, track subscriptions, and save more efficiently. It’s been a helpful tool alongside reading books like this to get a clearer picture of my financial goals.

Just reached my Goodreads challenge for the year which was 60 books. My total last year was 92 but I had a lot of shorter ones last year.
So this is what I read since my last post here: |

I left it far, far too long since I read one of these which is too my detriment as there's so much I don't remember and have been having to rely on Malazan Wiki to fill gaps. While I won't be reading the remaining books one after the other, I will have to make sure that I don't leave it too long between them again.

Haven't read any Gemmell for years either. First one of these was excellent but the 'sequel' while a solid enough book in its own right was something of a letdown - the Hawk Queen barely features in it and it doesn't tell the story that one presumes is to come after the end of the first book, instead suddenly turns into a multiverse and time travel story (years before it was 'the thing') where not enough is really revealed to the reader about the bigger picture to be satisfying. There's a review on Goodreads which says something like it feels like there's two missing books between them: my thoughts exactly!

Next in my line of authors to pick up again having not read them for years. First of a trilogy (which also has a sequel trilogy) and I'll be reading the next two books straight away although will probably read a few thrillers after that as that will then make six fantasy books read on the trot. I really enjoyed this one, rather humorous dialogue! Can't actually believe its taken me this long to pick this one up. They've been on my reading pile (I say pile, it's actually more like ten shelves and a wardrobe full of books) for a long time.

Finished reading A Memory of Light, final book in the Wheel of Time series. Save for New Spring I'm basically done w/ it. Hell of a journey!

Congratulations! It feels like quite an achievement to finish a series, especially ones as massive as that. I know Adam is on Good Reads (because I follow him), but is anyone else on StoryGraph? Some young guys from work pointed me at it. It's like a more modern version of Good Reads, and has cool things like reading challenges and reading stats. It has nowhere near the same number of users as Good Reads, so there are a lot less reviews, but it seems like a fun site. This is me if anyone wants to have a look. https://app.thestorygraph.com/profile/carnivorous_mower

Conversely New Spring is the only one I've read. I expect I will read it again though, when I tackle this series. I am of the mind to start it if not this year then early next year but I expect I will be reading it as one, maybe two volumes a time and spread it out with other authors. I have multiple longer fantasy sagas sitting here to read where the books are quite big each time. I am juggling whether to focus on one only or flit between the them. The other two are Adrian Tchaikovsky's Shadows of the Apt (10 books) and Janny Wurts' Wars of Light and Shadow (11 books, but I only have these ones up to a certain point, I think book 7 or 8 which of course is more than enough to be going on with). I also have to resume series from Raymond E Feist, David Eddings (I must admit I got weirded out reading the last Eddings trilogy because I found out while reading it that he was a child abuser, something which got buried during his lifetime and was only rediscovered after his death, which makes me feel bad for reading him but I probably will still read the sequel trilogy to the last one I read), Neal Asher, and many others. So many books, so little time.

Since I last posted a cover here I've read:
This was a decent trilogy, quite humorously written considering it's about an order of religious knights. What spoiled this for me was that while reading the middle book I was looking up David Eddings, an author I'd read other series of many years ago, and discovered that after his death his past as a child abuser was unearthed. It was difficult to read these in the same light after that. I still rather want to find out what happens in the sequel trilogy but feel conflicted about reading them at all. Finished both these series by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir. Very good both, overall preferred the Freya and Huldar series. Tending to read two Connelly's back to back since there's so many. Have previously seen the film of Blood Work but it didn't spoil too much due to completely changing the identity of the killer in a move that honestly feels like character assassination having now read the book. Film is okay on its own, shit as an adaptation. Oddly enough Connelly acknowledges its existence in Angels Flight. I've read better crime books but this one is set fairly local to me, near where my Aunt lives (she recommended it to me) so I actually know the area quite well: we actually had lunch in the pub the cops in this frequent a couple of weeks ago. Been a while since I read one of these because they're proving hard to find. I ended up getting this one out of the library. Not the best in the series it must be said: it reads like an interquel book between story arcs since the next three sound like they form a trilogy on their own while the previous book tied up various storylines. And now I'm reading the first of a ten book fantasy saga: I shan't read them all back to back, not least because I've got the new Brandon Sanderson coming which I'll be reading just as soon as I finish this one, but otherwise I expect I'll do the remainder two or even three at a time and break it up with other authors. While I tend to like to read fantasy in succession I remind myself that anyone who read a series like this as they came out had to spread it across years. I'm aiming to have read all ten by the end of 2025 although in that time I also wish to read more Malazan novels, having recently picked them up again and at least start The Wheel of Time and The Wars of Light and Shadow. I may read one off fantasy and science fiction and maybe some trilogies between volumes of the bigger series but mostly I'll break these bigger books up with more thrillers. I expect I'll be setting a more modest reading target for 2025 though. I went for 60 this year after making 92 on a 50 target for 2023. I've read 76 books in 2024 so far. The new Sanderson is massive (1300+ pages) so although I'm expecting to get through it and Empire in Black and Gold before the end of the year I expect this year's total books read will be 78. Maybe 79 if I can get a short one in after Wind and Truth. I might settle for most 30-40 target for next year though.

Took two weeks to read this tome but I'm finally there and wow, what an ending! I have some small criticisms but they're mainly related to the release order of the books since this one quite obviously sets up The Sunlit Man which was already published and also (SPOILER ALERT) leads into Mistborn Era 2 which again, was already published and finished already. Apparently we're getting at least Mistborn Era 3 before the next one of these which I expect will tie the two series up even more.
