For my money, Awake is the best thing the band ever did or ever will do. I like all the albums to varying degrees, bit Awake is head and shoulders above them all...

^ I never really got into Awake, but that might be because it was one of the last DT albums that I got/listened to.

I've got to agree with you here. Awake is the reason I will be disappointed in anything Dream Theater ever releases . That's how highly I hold this album. It's got a dark tone that they've brought on some songs since (a few on their latest), but it isn't the same. Kevin Moore was such a valuable member to Dream Theater, and his contributions to Awake show this. I'm more of a fan of his style even though Derek and Jordan are better musicians from a technical standpoint.

my 2 cents...
AWAKE , for many reasons, has the potential to live better with years mostly since the production is terrific.
The others 2 sounds always dated.
What do you think ?

1. Awake 2. Images 3. Change of Seasons 4. Scenes 5. Falling Into Infinity ...then the rest. (sorry when dream....!)
Scenes from a Memory is a really good album obviously but it is also the safest and most predictable for-the-fans album they had ever done up to that point. It also marks the end of the GREAT Dream Theater era in my opinion, although I do listen to Six Degrees with enjoyment.
To be honest I was also disappointed with Rudess. I was floored with the LTE albums, the first one also making up for the uneven FII and I often thought that DT should get Rudess, what a team! Then came Scenes which I guess I had too high hopes for, so...
Anyway, yeah, Awake. Images or Awake are the only correct answers in my not so humble opinion! :P

The best DT ouput is missing from this list ;-) From the available choices I went with Images&Words

I have yet to listen to Awake in full, but I own the other two on CD and Images and Words is definitely the superior one. Scenes From a Memory had a little too much bullshit and not enough metal. I found myself skipping a lot of the songs on it.
I like Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence, Train of Thought, and Octavarium better than either of those two anyway.

Wow, 3 options LOL
Well, out of these Awake is my favorite (and it's one of their tops IMO) but my favorite is Train of Thought
