Theres a high energy heavy metal band playing around Kentucky quite a bit these days, and their name is Silent from the Struggle. Their self-titled CD is everything youd want and expect from the heavy metal genre, and its done well. If youre looking to do some head-banging, look no further. Pop this one into the player and just turn it up and youll be bobbing in no time. First off, they have a killer vocalist in Chris Morehouse. He can sing it sweet or he can howl with the best of them, and he does it throughout the ten tunes on this release. Screams are injected into the tunes freely and at any given moment. But the vocals arent the only thing thats constantly in flux. The guitars often go from acoustic to electric, but as you would expect, the emphasis is on heavy. Often, the songs start off softly and quickly bolt into the frenetic. The last tune, Too Weak to Feel, actually carries the soft side throughout. The first tune, Forget Each Others Names, previews their style perfectly. Starts off soft, breaks into screams, features singing and some spoken word, and just warms you up for whats to come. After that, its more of the same. When you get the disc pay special attention to Thats What She Said, So High (this one starts off hard right from the start), and Fall in Line. The dual guitar attack is supplied aptly by Daniel Tucker and Brandon Lindsey. The rhythm section of Jeremy Walker on bass and Todd Hogan on drums is tight. Mr. Hogan has the heavy touch that stokes the metal perfectly. This band knows their genre well, they pull out all the stops, and the tunes are good. It is heavy, but theres a good amount of melody as well. So if this sounds like your thing, go get yourself a copy. Its good heavy metal. To be honest, this is actually quite lame. Just sounds like another post-hardcore band.
In fact, it's barely metal at all. Edited by Wilytank - 28 Aug 2011 at 4:16pm |
