Before I joined up here on MMA, I have to admit I was in a pretty bad funk.
Especially with my interest in music. Let me rephrase that. My passion for music... something I've always had in my life, was at its nadir. The last two years I had just about given up buying anything on impulse, or even on well-informed purchases. I wasn't listening to much except the same ol' s@!t I had been listening to for years. Most of my friends that I actively talked and shared music had moved on and it killed a lot of that fire inside for it. Thankfully, I had stumbled upon this site and looked around the forums....and I really liked what I was saw. A whole site devoted to something I really had a love for.... inhabited by people that really seemed to have that passion that I used to have. And since that day, two weeks ago, I seemed to have gotten that spark back and I really have you guys to thank. I have started listening to new stuff again and giving music a go. Its done wonders for my mood, too. Because of well read reviews and conversations I've had on here with some of the forum campers, I've gotten into a lot of stuff I wouldn't have even bothered to look into in the recent past. Bands like: Vektor, SubRosa, Alcest, Fen, X-Panda, Myrath, Leprous, Theocracy, Havok, Anubis Gate. I've enjoyed every one of them. And some bands like Borknagar, Arcturus, ICX Vortex, Touchstone, Riverside, Kalisia, Agalloch, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, and Diablo Swing Orchestra didn't really blow me away, but didn't waste my time giving them a spin or two, either. So, thanks again, to all you here at MMA. You've done me a good turn and I heartily appreciate it. |

Great to hear that you enjoy MMA. Ive had similar non-inspired times in my life too. Especially the thing you mention with like-minded friends who moved on. Either physically or mentally. Not having that dose of music talk that I used to have when I was younger left me uninspired to check out new music and as Im a late commer to the internet I didnt become aware of sites like this one before well into the new millenium.

You're very welcome.
This site is an inspiration and has personally resurrected my interest in Metal sub-genres I'd long given up on. You can always get more involved with the site if you feel like it too! |

I was in a bit of a funk before this site began, at least a metal funk (and not funk metal ). It probably had more to do with the fact that my music tastes were rapidly expanding into jazz and progressive rock for the few years prior to that, and I thought I was going to be leaving metal behind for a while. Joining Metal Music Archives allowed me to keep close tabs on what was being released currently by modern metal artists (especially since I help to add these releases), and helped me familiarize myself with some more legendary groups I passed over when growing up. And since I grew up as a teenager listening almost exclusively to metal, I am now beginning to appreciate some albums I haven't listened to in years by using this site to share some reviews every once in a while.
I'm glad to hear others are benefiting from this site.

I too lost all my metal friends.
Didn't end up in a funk though, luckily. |
