I don't like Nu Metal. But I think that the Prog Metal can be mixed with every other metal genre. Actually exist something like Prog Nu Metal?

Insofar as System of a Down are a nu metal band at all, I think that some of the tracks on "Toxicity" are kinda progressive.

Coheed are definatley proggy but I can't hear any Nu Metal in them, more of a pop-punk/emo basis to my ears.

I honestly don't think it can here's why.
Nu Metal is pretty specific. How far can you push it? It's like melodic death metal...after so far, it's not really even close to death metal and is just "prog" metal. Also SoaD was never nu metal can someone please tell me why the title was applied, and still sticks???? the heavy, simple riffing? OK sure, but song structure wise, they were pretty out there. Alt/prog metal. |

Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

I imagine its just because of when their debut came out, the production sound on it and who they toured with at the time. If that was the only info you had to go on, it'd be easy to lump them in as Nu Meta, especially if you were a lazy journalist and didn't listen closely enoughl. |

^Yes, Angry Scotsman is right. The first album of Slipknot is very experimental, with some Primus like songs and odd song structures. Too bad they became a nu metal band...

Maximum the Hormone has a pretty, if not progressive, then at least different approach to Nu Metal.

Judging by the samples here on MMA, Maximum the Hormone seems to be a good band: http://www.metalmusicarchives.com/maximum-the-hormone.aspx With a progressive edge, btw. Edited by Tupan - 17 Mar 2012 at 11:43am |

^They are very ecletic. Why don't move them to avant-garde?
