I didn't include NWOBHM, because it's pretty much the same thing as Traditional Heavy Metal, and I didn't include Proto-Metal, because it isn't really a genre.

I went for Thrash.
Metalcore and Progressive were also considered though. I'm not big on Black, Symphonic, Gothic, Glam or Folk metal.... but everything else I'll take at least a bit of. |

I hesitated a bit and eventually plumped for doom metal.
If Sabbath are alllowed to count as doom (since proto-metal isn't on the table), then doom metal without hesitation. |

I used to be really big on thrash and death metal, but then took an interest in power and progressive metal, and my tastes have mellowed so much since then that I don't think I can even say metal is my favorite genre, let alone pick one of the subgenres. I still have yet to get into many of those listed, though.

After searching and going through various metal and non-metal phases I have returned to my first true love death metal (well that was actually Bon Jovi, but still).

Anyways, as for me, Black Metal is my absolute favourite with Prog Metal coming in at a close second place. I also have great love for Death Metal and Thrash Metal. Folk Metal, Power Metal, Trad. Heavy Metal and Hard Rock are all absolutely fucking awesome. I hate most Metalcore and Glam Metal, but there are some exceptions to the rule. I'm personally not to big on Gothic Metal or Avant-Garde Metal, the rest I like.

I can't decide. On the one hand I love prog metal like Opeth but dislike DT and other vanilla acts. I love death metal and post/sludge too. And post-black.... and some doom too. Daaaamn

I prefer the only true metal genres: glam metal, metalcore and nu metal.

I honestly can't pick just one. I can give a top four: Prog, Power, Folk & Symphonic. Death and Black coming in just after. Death metal may crack the top four eventually. I bought more death metal albums in the last year than I have done in the whole time I've been listening to metal.
To cut a long story short, no vote, for now at least.

Hardcore and punk history is intertwined with metal history. A lot of the early thrash bands were inspired by crust punk and hardcore and some NWoBHM bands were also influenced by punk back then, so I think the inclusion of punk acts is valid.

Power. By miles, even though I love symphonic and prog a lot as well, along with some melodic death, thrash, trad, folk and gothic.
