In what order would you rank countries and their importance to metal ?
To me it looks something like: Tier 1: UK USA Sweden Germany Norway Finland Canada Tier 2: Denmark Australia Switzerland France Russia Tier 3: Anywhere Else What about you. How do you see each country ? Does where you live change that ? |

If were talking important in the development of metal I agree that the UK should be on top (acts like Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Judas Priest speak louder than words), but if we are talking todays scene, the UK wouldnt rank very high on my list. Its very seldom these days I come across a UK act that really makes an impression. At least when were talking extreme metal.

Depending on how recent you're talking about. Esoteric rules the UK.

All I know is that I live in the US and that I'm supposed to think metal here sucks.

From a objective point of view, I think that's more or less accurate.

As for black metal, be glad you guys have Wodensthrone: Also, Askival as well. And if Ireland counts, Altar of Plagues. The U.K. also has Anaal Nathrakh, one of the most extreme sounding metal acts around. They formed in 1999 and put out their first album in 2001 though so I don't know if you call that recent.

Yes. Brazil is thus #1? Like I've said before on PA threads about which country is better, (though admittedly this one is better) the answer is none, since countries have nothing to do with music Unless one started purposely funding bands! |

Megadeth, Metallica, Slayer and Testament. The real Big Four of thrash metal!

Actually, if you're talking importance to metal, Morbid Visions is probably Sepultura's biggest contribution. It hasn't aged well, but it was a key contributor to early death metal.

Well, I agree with you, but this album influenced many bands back in the 90's! And, in Brazil, we have another great bands: Angra, Krisiun, Volcano, Sarcfago... |
