All these subgenres are merged into some other genre at our site. Which one would you like to see most as a separate one?

Metal-related is the only one I really see as feasible.  Most of the others either aren't distinct enough from what they are lumped with right now (ex: stoner metal) or simply aren't large enough scenes to warrant an entire sub IMO

Drone and stoner bunched with Doom metal is probably the best choice, as distinguishing one from another is basically just down to individual band interpretation really. Metal related seems like the one to fill in some gaps.

I've been pushing for Metal Related to be added here for a long time, so obviously I voted for that. I've come round to the idea that Neoclassical Metal is worth its own sub though.

I know it's unlikely to happen but I'd like groove metal to at least be considered.

Metal related is the one I'd like to see most. The other subs can usually fit comfortably in a different subgenre, and we can clarify their sound in the biography.

I agree. Personally Id like to keep things as simple as possible.

Yes, neoclassical/shred should be combined into one sub

Yeah, I kinda don't like Pantera and Lamb of God being in the same category as actual thrash metal bands.

Also, aren't neoclassical and shred basically the same thing?

Not quite but can be, and usually are, put together into one sub as close to each other.

I'm not one to complain about genres but something irks me about Vulgar Display of Power being considered a top thrash album. IMO there's a big enough distinction between thrash and groove for it to have its own page.

Nu metal, groove metal and stoner rock are genres i'd like to see added, though i understand they all fit into categories already on this site. Still it's weird having  Soundgarden in the same category as Limp Bizkit.

Metal related is the only interesting category in that list and it would spark less controversy than the prog related category LOL.

Neo-classical is still power metal mostly, so I don't see an improvement in having it separately.
Crossover thrash is still thrash LOL
There should be a nu metal category just to have proper listing, Soundgarden and Limp Bizkit in the same category is just wrong; so who knows the difference between alternative metal and nu metal should help I guess.

Metal fusion/jazz metal is still progressive metal so I don't see an improvement in seeing it separately either.

Well there isn't that much of a difference between nu metal and alternative metal really, but you can tell the two apart since most alternative metal band's came about in the 80s/early 90s, while most nu metal bands came about in the late 90s, and had much more of a pantera and rap influence, as opposed to the alternative metal bands who are usually closer to alternative rock and grunge.

Having a nu metal category would be a good way of separating the alternative metal bands that have rapping (p.o.d, crazy town, limp bizkit etc.) from all the others.

^Further subdivisions of subgenres on MMA probably wont happen until the day we have a well functioning army of Collabs, who would be willing to do all the manual work involved in such an operation. Reading this thread I can definitely see some of your points, but then again I think the subgenres that are on the site now also makes almost perfect sense. There will always be artists that are impossible to place right and sub-subgenres that people feel should have their own sub genre, but if you look for "umbrella" subgenres, I think the ones we have now are pretty valid. IMO metal-related is sorely missed and personally Id like to see a hardcore subgenre here too for metal-related hardcore (not punk).

The thing with two many subgenres and subgenres to those subgenres is that it can seem extremely intimidating to newcommers. Im imidiately reminded of how I felt the first time I visited JMA: http://www.jazzmusicarchives.com/ (and its not to say anything bad about the site. The users there probably think those subgenres are valid and helpful). Im still intimidated, confused and exhausted from looking at all those sub-subgenres. So ask yourself if more subgenres would he helpful or confusing? Especially if you try and put yourself in the place of a newcommer to metal...

I'd be against having a metal related category, since to me that would really open the floodgates for anything even remotely metal to make it here, which would make this place more like the rock music archives rather then the metal music archives.
