Watched two today:

Ghosts of Mars (2001) - weak for Carpenter, I can see why it's often considered his worst film.

The Last Stand (2013) - I really enjoyed this. In some respects it's a typical action crime film, but subtle hints early on in the narrative later take centre stage and turn it into a full blown neo-western with black comedy elements.

^ I was really disappointed in that Dark Tower film. As far as Stephen King adaptations go I think it's real bottom of the pile stuff.

I thought it was okay as its own thing, but bore little resemblance to the books. It's been a while since I read the series, but skimming through the plot of the first book on Wikipedia the film ought to have been some kind of fantasy neo-western. It's clear they wanted an action movie though...

Goosebumps (2015) - Watched it since I read the books as a kid. Actually quite funny.

It was OK the first couple of times, but by the 7th or 8th it gets a bit tiresome. My granddaughter puts it on every chance she gets because it scared her younger brother. She won't be able to find it next time she comes to visit. It has been banished to that special place in Hell (in with my metal DVDs!) also reserved for High School Musical!Evil Smile

I was very disappointed too. I´m a big fan of the books and have read them a couple of times since I read them the first time as a child (back then book 3 had just arrived), so this film adaptation is not anything like I had hoped for. To do the over 3000 pages just a little justice they should have made something like the film adaptation of The Lord of the Rings. Then maybe they would have been able to do the book some justice.

I agree that as a stand-alone fantasy movie, The Dark Tower is alright, and my son enjoyed it (he hasn´t read the books), but I do hope another adaptation will happen at some point in the future.

^ Amazon is producing a TV series but it's unclear at this point how much continuity it will have with the film, considering its flop.

^ Yes I agree. For my money it's Del Toro's best film since Pan's Labyrinth. Definitely not regretting my rare full price purchase of the DVD.
