Not many I've heard here, but out of the ones I have I voted Anathema. One of their last good albums before turning soft rock imo.

Has to be Bruce Dickinson, his classic solo effort.

There´s not really anything on that list, which I find crazy good, so I had to go with King Diamond, even though Voodoo certainly isn´t their best effort.
It could have been Blind Guardian or Katatonia too though. Edited by UMUR - 10 Jun 2015 at 2:11am |

Ayreon. This is a fairly easy one for me, because that's one of my favorite albums of all time. Though the Bruce Dickinson album is fantastic as well.

Threshold is the best for me there though not a lot I'm mad about to be honest.
These would be my top metal/rock albums of 98... Death - Sound of Perseverance Savatage - The Wake of Magelan Symphony X - Twilight In Olympus |

Yeah, been a Threshold fan for many years and have bought all their albums. Ha ha, not easy to remember all the albums from every year so not surprised you missed one or two out. I have my Lp/Cd collection in a works database so I can sort it various ways including by year so with a few clicks can see what I've got from any year.

It was a tough choice between Nightfall in Middle-Earth and Solitude Aeturnus - Adagio, both masterpieces. I will give it to BG, since it was an album that gave me goosebumps from the very first listen. Which is a very rare occurence generally.
I am missing this fantastic album from the list though: Destiny's End - Breathe Deep the Dark. A speed, power/thrash masterpiece that brings to mind Helstar's two masterpieces (A Distant Thunder and Nosferatu of course). Having James Rivera on vocals helps of course! Guitarwork is amazing on this one. I am sorry for the thumbnai if you are at work. Dude who uploaded it just flashes that picture for a second during the video, obviously wanted to use it for a thumbnail, god knows why. KILLER song though. |
