Thought I'd make a formal discussion thread for stoner metal, so talk about your favorite stoner metal bands, new bands and albums, ask for recommendations, and even talk about simply stoner rock if you want to.

As always, it should be kicked off with a classic:

One of my favorite Clutch songs, and one of the best album openers.

Could this thread be stickied?

^Yup, the song II is especially amazing.

My favorite stoner metal track from 2016:

I guess it could (or should given precedent) but there are so many stickies already in this forum that I was actually just thinking about setting everything back to normal topics so the threads that genuinely have been active recently are on page 1. It's got a bit OTT in here.

On topic this is not a genre I really know too much about. I own just one stoner metal album, that being Supernatural Birth Machine by Cathedral, which I picked up in a second hand shop some years ago.

I kinda liked it but it possibly wasn't the best introduction to the band or the genre as it seems to be their least well regarded release, going by the RYM averages.

^You may like Red Wizard's Cosmosis album, it mixes in a bit of that retro psychedelic/spacey sound that I know you seem to like.

I can give you a list of essential and defining albums if you're looking to get more familiar with the genre.

Red Wizard sounds promising for my tastes. I'll check them out, possibly tonight.

As usual I was delayed checking them out, but yeah, Red Wizard is pretty awesome. Thumbs Up

Hey Khaliq, help me do something about this voting mess on their album on RYM will you?

https://rateyourmusic.com/release/album/red_wizard/cosmosis/

Currently reads no primary with doom metal influences. Which I do hear a bit but mostly this is obvious stoner even to my untrained ears.

Forgot to rate it on there, it's stoner primary now. I don't know how anyone could listen to it and not think it's stoner metal. Confused

I've recently started exploring this genre properly. I've quite liking what I'm hearing so far and have even picked up a few albums off of ebay for my collection:

^ This is literally the heaviest album I've ever heard,

I also really liked this one from Wo Fat (I have a different Wo Fat album but it's more stoner rock) but the chances of getting this look slim as it seems to be out of print. I love the cover, it looks like a really old horror movie.
