Both albums had great impact on me, but as Somewhere in Time was my first ever bought vinyl, I´ll give my vote to that album for nostalgia reasons.

Iron Maiden has released more consistently great albums over the years. Dream Theater has released a handful of classics. IMAGES AND WORDS is likely the cream of the crop, so I have to pick it.

A few years ago I'd have probably said Images and Words but I've an ever increasing regard for Somewhere in Time and now think of it as the better album. Both excellent though, but with that said The Astonishing really burned me out on Dream Theater in general so I'm always much more likely to choose Maiden over them at this point in time.

I dislike The Astonishing as well, in fact to me they've been going downhill since Octavarium, I'm not that fond of SDoIT these days (I haven't listened to the epic in years, the short songs, yes), but still I will listen to the albums I like from them. |

I haven't voted as I'm not sure. Have both and really like both equally, or did the last time/s I listened. I'll need to revisit, I guess. There's only so many hours in the day to listen to heavy metal when you also have to work
 As for DT, the last three albums have been really disappointing for me. Many hate the two before, but I oddly don't and especially like Systematic Chaos, which is the second lowest rated DT album on this site.

You need a job like mine then, where you can listen to it at work. Today I had The Accused, The Misfits, Overkill, Annihilator, The Circle Jerks, and a few other bits and pieces. Not all metal, I know, but you get the idea. |
