It's a tough call, deciding what's proto metal and what isn't - we're in no way attempting to be governors of taste here - there are no hard and fast rules to apply, just fingers in the air to see which way the wind blows.

So here are the also-rans - the often amazing bands who didn't make the metal archives simply because some arrogant individual said "oh, they're not metal enough for me..." 

If there's enough pressure (a few guys going "Hey, dude, that sounds metal to me" constitutes enough pressure, thanks), then bands might get added. 

If there isn't, and you like the music you hear in this thread, then consider it yet another service provided free of charge, gratis and for nothing by this very fine music site, and go buy the albums - support the obscure musicians 

Today's rejects were later to become Lucifer's Friend, so this was a bit of a tough one - but too happy, bluesy and upbeat, despite the heaviness.

Nothing to do with Gauls or magic potion, by the way - sorry, Asterix.
