An alternative take on the Sludge Metal poll. No Atmospheric sludge allowed on this one except in cases where a release is tagged as both. Just for clarification, the Old Man Gloom - The Ape of God is the one with four tracks.

Still haven't heard barely any of these. Kylesa's the only one I've heard, and Old Man Gloom's on my list of stuff to check out.
Sludge I've heard from the 10's according to RYM tagging: Kylesa - Spiral Shadow Obake - Obake Whores. - Ruiner Corrosion of Conformity - S/T Lumbar - The First and Last Days of Unwelcome Floor - Oblation Down - Down IV - Part Two Obake - Mutations Brothers of the Sonic Cloth - S/T Chipmunks on 16 Speed - Sludgefest Melvins - Basses Loaded Crowbar - The Serpent Only Lies Obake - Draugr Superjoint - Caught Up in the Gears of Application Melvins - A Walk With Love and Death Phil Anselmo and the Illegals - Choosing Mental Illness as a Virtue

I honestly don't listen to much sludge. I should check out more because what I have heard has generally been good. I wouldn't say I know enough about the genre yet to claim any kind of education over it either. I mean off of this list I would swear blind that neither of the Mizmor releases is sludge, but black metal (well, black/doom), which RYM has always taken issue with. But even if I don't know much about sludge if there's one genre I do it's black metal. And those are absolutely black metal. Black as fuck even. Them being here makes this list two releases shorter IMO.
The only other stuff I've heard is Kylesa and Dvne, both of which I recall being very good but are both releases I have only played once. Have to give it to Kylesa for more overall band familiarity.

A lot of very decent releases here (I agree on Mizmor). Gone with Heathen by Thou. Great dirty sludge.

I can't help but see the irony here after your comment on the original that you voted for the only one that's still also tagged as Atmo Sludge.
